Shunkan, the LA-based rock project of Marina Sakimoto, is excited to share her new album Kamikaze Girl, out now via Houston’s Rite Field Records. Marking her long-awaited return, today’s release is a record filled with introspective moments, soaring guitars, and gut-punching lyricism. The ten-track album brings its listener through the fire and out again, with Sakimoto’s powerful vocals leading the way. Shunkan’s first record in over five years, it feels as though they have finally arrived with Kamikaze Girl.
LISTEN TO KAMIKAZE GIRL
Recorded last year in Joshua Tree, CA and produced by Alex Newport (Death Cab for Cutie, Melvins, The Mountain Goats), Kamikaze Girl examines how to put things back together after falling apart. Heralding the announcement was “Hellbound,” a hazy, melancholic track that expects the worst and wants the best. Grounded by Sakimoto’s honeyed vocals, brightly toned guitar riffs reverberate like late-night memories and desire-driven mistakes. Following “Hellbound” came the single “Usual Suspects,” a high-energy, punchy track reminiscent of early 2000s emo. Sakimoto’s powerful voice and heavy guitar riffs center around lyrics that navigate life amid chaos. Final single, “Prettier” is packed with meaning, featuring heartfelt lyrics that grapple with self-identity while navigating the complexity of relationships. The song moves from melancholy to anger, communicated by initial slow-pulsing beats that transform into gritty, emotional guitar.

Shunkan signed to Rite Field Records last fall and quickly mapped out her first full-length offering since 2019’s Cumberland Falls. Sakimoto first debuted the project in 2014 with her first EP, Honey, Milk and Blood, which earned praise from the likes of DIY, Brooklyn Vegan and Far Out Magazine. Shunkan’s critically acclaimed first LP The Pink Noise, arrived in 2014 with fan favorite tracks, “Garden” and “S.A.D.”

ABOUT SHUNKAN:
Born on the Gemini-Taurus cusp and raised in a bicultural household, Marina Sakimoto has always felt the pull of duality — a sense of being both split and whole. This theme is the heartbeat of Shunkan, the Los Angeles-based rock project she leads with raw emotion and unflinching honesty. In 2024, Shunkan signed to Rite Field Records and collaborated with GRAMMY®-nominated producer Alex Newport (Death Cab for Cutie, At the Drive-In, Bloc Party) to craft a record that captures a pivotal moment in Sakimoto’s life. Written during one of her most challenging years, the album reflects on fleeting friendships that echoed her adolescence, coming to terms with an unwinding love, and wandering through the streets of LA in search of herself.
Shunkan’s sound melds angular, emotive guitar work with anthemic melodies, channeling the raw intensity of second-wave emo and the vibrant hooks of early-2000s alternative rock. It’s a dynamic style that has earned critical acclaim for her EP Honey, Milk and Blood and debut album The Pink Noise, praised by outlets such as The Guardian, NME, and Spin. In 2019, The Pink Noise was archived by the National Library of New Zealand for its cultural significance. The upcoming album pays homage to the music that first inspired Sakimoto, exploring themes of connection, nostalgia, and transformation. With a foot in the past and an eye on the future, Shunkan continues to explore the beauty of being caught in a moment.

Stereo MC’s Play Select US Shows Beginning This Week Ahead Of Cruel World Appearance
Ahead Of Cruel World Festival Tickets Read 'The Song That Connected' on Spin.com

and had the room dancing all night." - BrooklynVegan
Globally revered Hip-Hop/Electronic dance pioneers Stereo MC’s are playing select US dates leading up to their appearance at the Cruel World festival on May 17th. The band came to the East Coast in January for their first US shows since 2001, and while in New York, they stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to perform their classic hit, Connected - you can watch that here. Featuring original members Rob Birch (Rob B), Nick Hallam, and Cath Coffey, with drummer/percussionist, Tansay Omar, fans can expect to hear tracks from across the Brit Award-winner’s seven studio albums, including Connected, Step It Up, Elevate My Mind, Lost In Music, and many others. Stereo MC’s are probably best known for their international Top 20 hit single ‘Connected’, which was released in 1992 and was the title track of their album the same year, reaching #2 in the UK Album Chart. It also contained the hits ‘Step It Up’, ‘Creation’, and ‘Ground Level’, and led to the group winning two Brit Awards for Best Group and Best Album in 1994. Being childhood friends and neighbors, Rob and Nick formed Stereo MC’s in the mid-eighties, with the pair inspired to make music by their combined love of early hip-hop, funk and electronic music. They initially pressed their first 12” vinyl and started their own independent record label called Gee Street Records, with Kiss DJ Richie Rich and budding entrepreneur, Jon Baker. When Gee Street attracted the attention of 4th & Broadway in 1989, the duo recorded the debut Stereo MC’s album, ‘33-45-78’. Nick says, “When we started getting gigs around that time, we thought it would be great to have live drums, even if they made the turntables bounce around. But when we went to the States, the U.S. branch of our record company said, ‘We’re not paying for a drummer to come on tour, because you don’t do that with this type of music’. There were a few barriers to cross before dance music was established as a live music force and was given equal rights in the touring and festival scene. Island Records had a good attitude to developing young acts, though, and we were given time to grow both in the studio and on the road.” After releasing 33-45-78, the band toured with De La Soul, Living Colour and A Certain Ratio. They then headed to New York to record their second album, ‘Supernatural’ in 1990, bearing the singles ‘Elevate My Mind’ (which made it into the US R&B Charts) and ‘Lost in Music’ which was a club hit in the UK and US. This success was further cemented when they supported Happy Mondays on a US tour. Rob says, “If we weren’t on the road or making our own tracks we were remixing for other artists. Life didn’t have a clock, you just worked and vibed until you dropped on the sofa and woke up in your clothes six hours later.” “The summer of 1992 saw us finish our 3rd LP, Connected, which we toured solidly for about 18 months after its release. It was a big success for us and everybody involved and was a beautiful moment in our development. Navigating our way through the aftermath of over-touring fatigue and life catching up with you was challenging, and for a while the creative spark was hard to find, so we went into recluse mode and built our own studio again so we could get out of the music biz domain.” Stereo MC’s were in demand for remix work from the likes of U2, Madonna, Tricky, Pressure Drop, David Holmes, Terranova and Mo’Wax records, as well as earlier mixes for The Jungle Brothers, Queen Latifah and RZA. After making a mix album for the DJ Kicks series on Studio!K7 in 1999, 2001 saw the release of the band’s fourth album ‘Deep Down & Dirty’, followed by a tour that included opening for Jane's Addiction in the US. The album’s title track became Stereo MC’s fifth consecutive Top 20 hit single in a row. Following recordings for Pias, K7 and Graffiti, they continued their long relationship with club music, starting the label ‘connected’ in 2015, initially to release their own new music, while also releasing other artists, and have since become established in the ever-popular Afro House genre. They have also collaborated with some of the biggest current names in house music via releases with Adam Port and Keinemusik and Stil Vor Talent, and have featured guest spots with Re.You, Anja Schneider, Fred Everything and many others. MINISTRY is Bringing 'The Squirrely Years' to Vancouver May 26-27, Celebrating Early Synth Pop Hits from 'With Sympathy' & Songs From 'Twitch'

Al Jourgensen said he'd never do it - and yet here we are. Stranger things have happened in 2025, but Al finally dusting off hits from With Sympathy and playing them live is pretty up there.
On May 26 & 27, Ministry will head to Vancouver at Commodore Ballroom to celebrate The Squirrely Years , the name Al has given to the period of time when Ministry began as a synth pop band and released hits like "Work For Love" and "I'm Not An Effigy" and of course the goth anthem "Everyday Is Halloween." But as the saying goes, time heals all and Al is ready to embrace the past and play the hits live.
It all comes on the heels of Ministry releasing the accompanying The Squirrely Years album this past March on Cleopatra Records, in which he reexamined his long-dormant synth pop hits and gave them a fresh polish 40 years later. That includes the first-ever video for "Everyday Is Halloween" - see it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTISF4ZwjMg
“Since I hated my early stuff for decades, I decided to take ownership of it and do it right,” Al has shared. In addition to Al, the live band includes John Bechdel (keyboards), Monte Pittman and Cesar Soto (guitars), Pepe Clarke Magaña (drums) and Paul D’Amour (bass). Opening band support will come from Ministry’s old-school comrades, including Nitzer Ebb for the first half of the tour, My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult for the second half of the tour; and Die Krupps on all dates.
About MinistryBorn in 1981 in Chicago, Ministry has been the lifetime passion project of founder Al Jourgensen, considered to be the pioneer of industrial music. In its early days, Ministry was identifiable by its heavy synth-pop material in line with the new sounds and technology that were being developed in the ‘80s. Ministry’s output began with four 12” singles on Wax Trax! Records in 1981 before the first LP With Sympathy in 1983 via Arista Records. As time progressed however, so did Ministry, quickly developing a harsher, and more stylized sound that the band soon became infamous for on seminal albums Twitch (1986), The Land of Rape and Honey (1988), and The Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste (1989). With the release of Psalm 69: The Way to Succeed and The Way to Suck Eggs (1992), Ministry hit an all-time high in the mainstream musical realm and received its first Grammy nomination. In total, Ministry has been nominated for a Grammy award six times. Eight more albums would follow before an indefinite break in 2013, only to be unearthed again in 2018 with AmeriKKKant, continuing to reflect Jourgensen’s views on the frightening state of society and politics. The 2021 album Moral Hygiene marked a new creative era of Jourgensen and the band. Ministry’s 16th studio album, HOPIUMFORTHEMASSES, was released March 1, 2024 via Nuclear Blast Records. Full of Hell share ‘Broken Sword, Rotten Shield’ title track
Full of Hell share Broken Sword, Rotten Shield title track
The new 7-song EP is out 5/16. See the band on tour in North America this May + June with Harms Way + more...

Full of Hell will release their new EP Broken Sword, Rotten Shield on May 16th [pre-order]. These seven new songs are a blistering meditation on love, loss, and the crushing inevitability of grief. Through a fantasy-tinged lens, the band crafts a world of dog knights and noble quests, only to tear it all down in a violent reckoning with mortality.
Today, the band shares Broken Sword, Rotten Shield's title track. Vocalist Dylan Walker says it's an "...introduction to the theme of the EP. The dog knights represent these pure defenders against a world of darkness and the feeling of utter grief and defeat when we lose these companions. Along side that metaphor, the song also explains that in this world, all living things are rendered equal in the end, and for some that's a mighty fall."
Listen / share "Broken Sword, Rotten Shield"

Directed by Sam DiGristine & Patrick Costello
Following the overwhelming acclaim of 2024’s Coagulated Bliss—named Decibel Magazine’s best grindcore record of the year—Full of Hell continue their creative streak with a record that’s both conceptually rich and sonically devastating. Produced by Kevin Bernstein (Misery Index, Pig Destroyer), Broken Sword, Rotten Shield balances suffocating heaviness with moments of bleak melody and reflection. It’s a record that expands Full of Hell’s world while digging deeper into what’s always driven them—confronting pain with absolute honesty, and turning it into something crushingly real.
Broken Sword, Rotten Shield will arrive just ahead of a major North American tour with Harm’s Way, Kruelty, Jarhead Fertilizer, and Clique. See tour dates below and look for more news from Full of Hell soon.

Lael Neale Shares “Wild Waters” Official Video From Altogether Stranger Her New Album Out This Friday, May 2nd
“Wild Waters” is also a vignette from The Altogether Stranger, a visual accompaniment to the album “Altogether Stranger,” which will premiere on YouTube on Thursday, May 1st. Starring Neale and written and directed in collaboration with producer and accompanist Guy Blakeslee, the 34-minute film weaves together nine music videos, capturing a world in which Neale, in a mirrored jumpsuit, plays an interdimensional being on a mission to restore harmony to humanity with her cosmic Omnichord.
It includes guest appearances from Ian Svenonius (as God) and choreography and movement direction by Sandi Denton (who also leads The Rated Z Dancers, who appear throughout).
Neale says of the “Wild Waters” visual and The Altogether Stranger…film:
“The video for ‘Wild Waters’ was a collaboration with choreographer & dancer Sandi (Denton). I had this vision of dancers playing the part of interdimensional beings performing a dance that would open a portal, calling my character through. In perfect synchronicity, when I approached Sandi with the idea, she had already been building a two-person dance that fit seamlessly. I love working with Sandi for this reason.”
Neale continues, “While the album was made by just me and Guy, the really fun part of creating this film was getting to include our friends in the production and experiment alongside some of the many visionary artists who are active in Los Angeles right now to bring the story to life. The guiding ethos for both the record and the film was an intuitive (vs. technical) approach, embracing the primitive simplicity of making things by hand.”
Also on release date, Neale fans will see new official videos for remaining Altogether Stranger songs “All Good Things Will Come To Pass,” “Come On,” “Sleep Through The Long Night,” “New Ages,” “All Is Never Lost,” and “There From Here,” arrive on YouTube.
Lael Neale’s headlining and festival date run for Spring and Summer 2025 in support of Altogether Stranger continues later this week with a release day instore on Friday, May 2nd at London’s Rough Trade East and runs through Saturday, June 14th in Hilvarenbeek, NL at Best Kept Secret Festival. THE BRIAN JONESTOWN MASSACRE NEW SINGLE 'MAKES ME GREAT/OUT OF BODY' OUT ON 10” VINYL OUT ON A RECORDINGS
NEW SINGLE 'MAKES ME GREAT/OUT OF BODY'OUT ON 10” VINYL OUT ON A RECORDINGSLISTEN NORTH AMERICA TOUR THIS FALL

Photo: Joe Eley "Makes Me Great and B-side Out Of Body are Anton Newcombe in woozy, feet-up mode, all soporific vocals and easy grooves, the latter eventually stretching its wings for an outro that sounds like Morricone conducting Go Let It Out-era Oasis."-The New Cue
THE BRIAN JONESTOWN MASSACRE's new single, 'Makes Me Great / Out Of Body’, a swirl of hypnotic grooves and fuzzed-out transcendence is released today digitally and on red, transparent 10” vinyl, via Anton Newcombe’s record label, A Recordings. Following a hugely successful UK and European tour earlier this year, the band return to North America this fall for an extensive run of live shows, including two dates with special guests, Cast, making their first US appearance in nearly 30 years. Tickets on sale now.
It is over 30 years since Anton Newcombe – frontman, songwriter, composer, studio owner, multi-instrumentalist, producer, engineer, father, force of nature – and his band The Brian Jonestown Massacre released their first single She Made Me / Evergreen. Released in 1992, as the British music press descended on the US to anoint the next US guitar band as flavour of the month and major labels were on the hunt for the compliant hopefuls to be their latest quick fix, Anton Newcombe had an idea: say no. As leader of the Brian Jonestown Massacre, Newcombe had already established himself as a visionary songwriter, a man to whom making music wasn’t a lifestyle choice or a hipster haircut but the very fabric of existence itself, and he had observed in silent horror as his peers meekly acquiesced to everything – yes to contracts, yes to management, yes to suggestions, yes to this, yes to that, yes, yes, yes. But he was different. Anton Newcombe was going to say no to everything. “I just knew I would be more successful in a certain way by saying no, just being contrary because I figured that if people liked me they were gonna like me anyway,” he says. “Or dislike me. It doesn’t matter.”
Much of this was documented on the controversial documentary ‘Dig!’, which is still hailed as one of the best rock documentaries ever made, and celebrates its 20th Anniversary this year with the remastered, expanded version “Dig! XX.”
Brian Jonestown Massacre’s shoegazing-tinged debut album Methodrone was released in 1995 and since then numerous band members have joined Newcombe on his sonic escapades, but he has remained the sole constant, the creative mastermind at the centre of one of music’s most fascinating bands. There have been a further 20 albums under the Brian Jonestown Massacre moniker since then, each embarking on their own mind-expanding adventure and exploring the outer realms of rock’n’roll; psychedelic rock, country-blues, snarling rock’n’roll, blissed-out noise-pop and more.
Along the way, Newcombe has established himself as a once-in-a-lifetime talent who saw the direction in which mainstream indie-rock was heading and opted to take the long way round. He’s emerged as a revolutionary force in modern music, an underground hero. There was no other way, this was how it had to be. “My only option with everything in life has always been that you just jump into the fire,” he declared. “It doesn’t matter what it is.”
It's with that spirit that he’s hopped around the globe, from the West Coast to New York, from Manhattan to Iceland, and then to Berlin, where he’s lived for 15 years and has two flats, one to live in and one that’s been converted into his studio. After a hugely prolific 2010s that saw the release of eight long-players and one mini-album, Newcombe had been going through a period of writer’s block when one day he picked up his 12-string guitar and The Real (the opening track on previous album Fire Doesn’t Grow on Trees) came out of him. Like the kraken, it was as if he’d summoned it. “All of a sudden, I just heard something,” he says. “And then it just didn’t stop. We tracked a whole song every single day for 70 days in a row.” By the end of it they had 2 albums ready to go. Joining Newcombe in the studio for The Future Is Your Past were Hakon Adalsteinsson (guitar) and Uri Rennert (drums).
Brian Jonestown Massacre released their 20th full-length studio album The Future Is Your Past, in February 2023 on Anton’s record label, A Recordings. In 2022 / 2023, they completed a massive world tour that saw them play 34 dates in North America, 25 dates across Europe and 16 dates in the UK. Towards the end of 2024, they released ‘Don’t Look At Me’ ft. Aimee Nash. It is a delicious slice of hypnotic shoegaze with Nash lyrically casting a spell with the mantra “Do No Harm.”
There is no such thing as a defining statement in Anton Newcombe’s world anymore, just more chapters that contribute to the tale. “Nobody can stop me, I’m not asking somebody, I’m not making the rounds at Warners, saying ‘please put out my record!’. It’s just for me,” he says. He hopes he can be an inspiration to others. “I would love to see more groups, people playing music in the UK and everywhere else because I really enjoy it. That’s the only reason I need. It’s the only reason to do stuff.” That hits to the core of what makes Anton Newcombe and Brian Jonestown Massacre tick. He’ll keep jumping in that fire. That’s how he rolls. Savor it. This run follows their 2024 stadium tour with Pearl Jam in Australia, where Eddie Vedder surprised the band onstage to congratulate them on their ARIA win and said, “For all the people who have yet to see them perform and this is your first time, we are very honoured that you will say, ‘I saw them on the same stage as Pearl Jam.’”
On April 23rd the band returned with their first single of the year, the raucous and celebratory “BALCONY.” Produced by 3x GRAMMY Award winner Catherine Marks (boygenius, Wolf Alice, Foals), mixed by 3x GRAMMY winner Oli Jacobs (Kendrick Lamar, beabadoobee, Taylor Swift) and mastered by Ruairi O’Flaherty (Sabrina Carpenter, Lana Del Rey, Bleachers), “BALCONY” is out now via Mom + Pop Music (World) and Community Music (AUS/NZ) — [stream HERE/watch HERE]. It’s the first track to emerge from a five-week recording stint at The Grove Studios in so-called NSW with London-based producer Marks and marks a bold new chapter for the band, expanding their signature sound with widescreen indie-rock flair.

Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers — Anna Ryan (they/she, vocals/guitar), Scarlett McKahey (she/her, guitar/vocals), Jaida Stephenson (she/her, bass), and Neve van Boxsel (she/her, drums) — first broke out with their 2022 EP Pretty Good For A Girl Band, earning praise from The Guardian, Teen Vogue, and others, with lead single “Girl Sports” landing at #55 on triple j's Hottest 100. Their 2023 debut LP I Love You debuted at #6 on the ARIA Albums Chart and included the Hottest 100-charting single “I Used To Be Fun” (#52). That same year, they opened for Foo Fighters and were named one of Spotify’s New Noise Artists To Watch.
The accolades have continued, including nominations for Australian Album of the Year (J Awards), Song of the Year (“I Used To Be Fun”) and Emerging Songwriter of the Year (APRA Awards), Best New Artist and Best Single (Rolling Stone Awards), and wins for Best Independent Rock Album or EP (AIR Awards) and Artist of the Year (Music ACT Awards). Their 2024 deluxe album I Love You Too features standout collaborations with Softcult on “Dull” and The Linda Lindas on “Please Me.”
Now based across Ngunnawal/Canberra and Naarm/Melbourne, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers have evolved into one of Australia's most urgent and exciting voices. Advocates for Green Music’s No Music on a Dead Planet, contributors to a Parliamentary inquiry into live music, and outspoken supporters of AAM’s Michael’s Rule, the band continues to channel their passion for music and social change into everything they do.
