10:15:56: Men of house on way to Austin. I'm supposed to be doing packing stuff. Instead...alone in house...back to Book III.
11:09:14: As I feared earlier, Something Nasty was in the woodshed....er...trail shelter. (Ref Cold Comfort Farm for those who didn't get it.)
14:42:53: New post up at http://www.speedofdark-thebook.com/blog/ on M-'s first semester of college and the move to come.

Tuesday

Yesterday we accomplished some of the pre-move chores plus one obligatory pre-moving Moment of Loudness (me.)    I called the moving company recommended by a friend at church, found their estimate reasonable, and set up a pickup for next Monday.  Heard bumpity-bump noises and found Older Man of House (hereafter OMoH) lugging heavy upholstered chair out into the yard.  After considerable discussion, chair was loaded in back of our big old van, but will actually be taken to M's new apartment...

10:08:51: Day one of serious OMG-it's-this-week moving prep. "We can do it all" says R. Subversive me calls movers, thinking of lugging mattress.
10:13:09: It's my contribution to the economy--creating paid work.

22:05:49: 1 week from today, M- moves to an apartment. Mothers of other autistic offspring--pray for my sanity, OK? (Flap both wings, kid! FLY!)
22:30:08: The good news is...ancient frozen puff pastry still puffs when you bake it.
23:01:03: When you're too tired to turn off computer and go to bed...you're too tired. Brain is acting like whirligig beetle.

11:55:25: Wisdom occasionally ignored: If you don't deglaze the pan *completely* and the stuff dries on...you'll regret your sloth.
11:56:55: Guess who is busy with steel wool this morning...but looking forward to a good hotpot later from the new stock.
12:03:04: Interview at SFFWorld: http://www.sffworld.com/interview/282p0.html Can't remember if I ever posted this. If so, sorry for repeat.

08:00:50: Severe weather forecast; driving to Salado to speak at library. Should make for a lively day.
08:03:08: Book III: Arvid in disguise is still Arvid to the core. (But he looks better in all black. At least, he thinks so.) Sneaky.
08:15:50: New post up at http://www.paksworld.com/blog/
14:43:57: Sometimes errors cancel each other out. The moon must be blue, because it happened to me this week. (BOUNCE!!!)

Another !**! header design contest

I hate, loathe, despise having someone else's header design on my "home" LJ page.  HATE it.   It's the place I have to come, to navigate my LJ, and yet now I'm being stuck with someone else's header idea (I wanted my own--just my own--on my own page ALL THE TIME.  Barring that, the plain blue banner strip.  ALL THE TIME.  The current one, all in red/pink/pale blue, hurts my eyes.   The colors clash with my userpic, and it's all splashy and noisy.  ICK.  It was bad enough when they imposed...

09:04:05: Stock simmering in pot overnight is almost to the point of removing stuff and reducing. But I may add some garden veg to it first.
10:06:29: Book III demanded some time, so I'm working on it until 11:30, when I must (MUST) deal with the kitchen.

The Day of Fail

One darn thing after another.   It started with the need, last night after choir, to move the roasted bones into the big stewpot, chop up all the ingredients for stock, and start the stock--getting it up to a boil and then stable at the right level of simmer for over night meant getting to bed one-ish.  Very late for me.  So  I didn't get a full night's sleep and woke up feeling "stale and unprofitable."    It continued with a number of provoking little things today, such that not only did...

12:51:10: Saw another book on "branding" yourself. I grew up in ranch country, where "branding" had a whole different meaning. Self-branding not OK
22:33:25: Beef stock started on the stove for overnight simmering. Had more bones than pot, alas.
23:30:33: 28 minutes past midnight: thunder.
