One of the reasons A Choir of Honest Killers took a couple years longer than planned is because @nifmuhammad sent me back to my room, rejected sample in hand, to stay present with what I was attempting. Thank goodness. His book They Can’t Kill Us Until They Kill Us was named book of the year by Buzzfeed, Esquire, NPR, Oprah Magazine, and the list goes on a lot longer. He’ll be the highlight tomorrow night at Heavy Hitters Festival with a performance, Q&A, and a workshop on finding the music in language. Tickets in bio. Still 25 shows left! Recordings of first 5 easily available to ticket-holders. Those alone are worth the price of admission, and not just because all of them were so moving I cried (except the one that broke out into a surprise 20-minute dance party, which was in fact also… moving. This is my friend Sekou Andrews. He got nominated for a Grammy Award this year. We haven’t talked much since his embarrassing loss to Michelle Obama. I’ve needed some time to get over it. Tomorrow night @sekouworld and I finally reunite at Heavy Hitters Festival. He’ll perform, and give a workshop on making a living as an artist. This one hits close to home and I’m excited to hear all the ways. Tickets in bio.
