Thank you to @daemondarrindell for reposting this from @kbnpete:

.

This is for those who believe people need to “get over slavery” because it was a “long time ago,” but never keep that energy for the Confederate flag wavers whose “heritage” only lasted 5 years. This for those who believe the myth that Black and Brown people still don’t face challenges today. Ironically, the same issues dealt to blacks were also imposed on poor whites, but history won’t tell you that because we never talk about Classism in this country. For those who believe that because racism isn’t so overt, riding through the night in a white sheet with vicious German shepherds and water hoses anymore, that it somehow went away because ya know what – “we had a black president”

.

60 connecting dots from 1619 to 2020. This is why said history is so important. Actual history, not the half truths of patriotism force fed in the public education system. But to really understand what people went through and are still going through, we have got to acknowledge the SYSTEMIC and STRUCTURAL issues that got us right here

.

Yes. We have come quite a ways, but we won’t be able to progress like we should until this systemic problems are recognized and amended

.

Apologies for the length in advance. It is 401 years lol but I hope this helps you as much as it did me.

Recordings of the first 7 shows are available to ticket-holders for the rest of the summer. If the next 23 are even half as good, and you’re an educator, we’ll have the most powerful writing curriculum/programming/workshop entertainment you’ve ever seen wrapped up by September. Anyone interested in writing or spoken word or enlightening is crazy to miss this festival. It’s been nothing less than whatever comes after magic? awfulgoodwriters.com Turn up the volume.
