Carly’s Obligatory Post

Carly Icon

THE IPHONE 5 is HERE! Knowing it was coming, I almost asked Julie to switch days with me this week. Why? Because of Apple’s Big September 12 announcement, of course! But I refrained, instead waiting until the day after to SQUEE! So before you ask, YES I’m getting it. I have the iPhone 4, not the 4S. My camera is awful and it’s the only camera I have on me. So I NEED the better camera for pictures I post and want to keep! But the coolest thing I saw in today’s announcement? GPS with AUDIO turn by turn directions!!!! I can’t find my way out of a paper bag. Two days ago I got lost going to a local high school that’s closer to my house than my daughter’s school. This is awesome! I mean my car has GPS but in a quick, I’m lost pinch, I need this! And when I’m in NYC? Awesome! So yes, I’m getting the iPhone 5. And I am sure nobody is surprised. If you’ve been here since 2007, you’ll remember this post - me on the iPhone line outside the Apple store.

So am I the only one so totally psyched over the newest Apple gadget?

What’cha Reading Saturday

Carly Icon

So yesterday was National Book Reading Day — at least according to the various book lovers I follow on Facebook – who gets this info from where, I wonder? Anyway, here’s what bought when I found out to celebrate (I’ll be reading on the treadmill!). Seducing Cinderella by Gina Maxwell and Wrong Bed, Right Guy by Katee Roberts. I’ve heard some good buzz. Has anyone read them? What are you reading?

Let’s Hear it for Routine!

Carly Icon

I discovered something about myself this past summer. I’m a creature of habit. Routine. And when that is all thrown off, I don’t function well … almost not at all. I wasn’t myself and you all heard me complaining about the driver’s ed class my daughter had to be at by 7 AM; and how I barely got any work done the second half of the summer. Yesterday she went back to school … and everything in my life clicked back into place. Honestly it was like a loud CLICK sounded and everything wrong became right again. I woke up and she got ready, I fed the dogs, gave her breakfast, sat with her till she went out for the bus. I went downstairs on the treadmill, came up, showered and sat down in my office at 9 AM ready to write and sprint with people on Twitter. I wrote for an hour and a half solid, and really accomplished something. Today I took an exercise day off, but I did write (discovered that it’s harder to lengthen a story than I thought it would be), and then went on to do errands and things. Tomorrow I’m back to the exercise and write routine. As you can tell, this makes me very happy. Very very happy!

How about you? Are you a creature of habit? Do you thrive on routine? Or prefer change and surprises?

Carly’s This and That

Carly Icon

I have no one big topic (so what else is new) … so here are my random thoughts in no particular order:

1. I got a CLEAN BILL OF HEALTH after an echo-cardiogram stress test – and a big scare. Lesson? Going on treadmill 5-6 days a week for 30 in a day. I thought I didn’t have time. I learned how to make it. Thanks to everyone for their good wishes and prayers for me (and the ongoing ones for my dad – I’m learning to believe more and more in the power of prayer in all faith and forms!)

2. I’m still planning on doing my big FB Kindle giveaway when I hit 10,000 LIKES at Carly Phillips Fan Page and I’m at 9,600 … getting there! Don’t forget to Share the Carly Love … er .. I mean the Carly PAGE!

3. Support Breast Cancer Awareness! Pick up a copy of SERENDIPITY – Read Pink! available September 25th! I’ll get details about the proceeds and % going to Breast Cancer Awareness for you asap! All booksellers have links!

4. I’m a slob – my office looks like a bomb hit it – that’s how I roll – the desk builds up and builds up until it looks like it’ll explode and that’s when I go in with heavy artillery and gas mask and clean. Janelle suggested I post a before and after, but I haven’t gotten around to the … after. The time is near, trust me!

5. My dogs – are crazy as always – but crazier is this website – Dog-Shaming – and I can honestly say I have never laughed so hard as I have going through these pages!Look at Brady waiting for the perfect moment to snatch Bailey’s toy – and not get his face snapped off. LOL. But that’s nothing. Visit Dog Shaming! I can’t give away Brady and Bailey’s secret shame but I had a Maltese named Spike who ate stinky baby diapers – and I waited for the pampers to swell and explode in his stomach.

6. Steve Burton (Jason) is leaving General Hospital and Ian Buchanan (Duke Lavery who we thought was dead) has returned. If you watch GH and you know me, you know exactly how I feel about each of these events. If you don’t? It’s probably irrelevant to you, LOL.

7. For fun (not prizes) visit our Plotmonkeys Facebook Page and answer the question posed. Oh but not before you comment here!

Happy Thursday. Ask me whatever you want about my various topics. I’m around to answer, a rarity in and of itself!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JANELLE!

Carly Icon

The best thing to ever happen to me from entering an unpublished author contest was having some published author named Janelle Denison read my manuscript and comment, telling me she loved my work and to keep trying to publish, I’d get there! Not sure what year that was but it’s been at least 15 years, probably more … through you I met Julie and Leslie … and we ALL want to wish you the happiest birthday ever! Although Don is off on Mondays, I hope he’ll forgive us for wishing you THIS GUY for this very special day!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to a very special person who is the sister of my heart! xoxo – Love, Carly

I hope you’re making the most of your special day…you deserve it so much. Your warmth and genuine good heart make you special beyond words – Love, Julie

Happy birthday Janelle! Thank you so much for being one of the warmest, most thoughtful, and kindest people I know. – Love, Leslie

PERFECT FIT – 1/13 – Cover Reveal

Carly Icon

In the picturesque town of Serendipity, New York, three siblings have grown up in the shadow of their proud and respected police chief father. But what do love, fate, and fortune have in store for the next generation of Serendipity’s finest?

Always feeling like the odd man out in his family, Michael Marsden wanted to make it on his own. So he escaped Serendipity to become an undercover cop in Manhattan, where the Marsden name wasn’t known. But Michael’s independence is compromised when he returns home to replace his sick father as chief of police. Back in the shadow of his family, he’s as lost and restless as ever, until he’s challenged by someone he never anticipated.

Cara Hartley is the Serendipity cop with whom Mike had a one night stand three months earlier. Neither expected anything more but fate has other things in store. When Mike returns as Cara’s boss, the sexual tension between them is impossible to ignore – and the unexpected emotional connection continues to grow. But Cara’s a small town girl while Mike has a wanderer’s blood in his veins.

Both are convinced a future together is impossible. Until Mike’s real father’s secrets come back to haunt him and he realizes there are some things worth staying and fighting for. Including Cara.

HELP ME HELP YOU … WIN A KINDLE!

As of this posting I have 9483 LIKES on my FACEBOOK FAN PAGE – and when I hit 10,000 I’m going to hold a FB Contest to giveaway a Kindle … and I’ve yet to decide what books along with it. So I hope you’ll LIKE my page and spread the word to help me get there. CLICK HERE

So … what do you think of the cover? Are you happy I’m staying in SERENDIPITY for the foreseeable future? I’m curious what everyone is drawn to most in contemporary romance today – in light of the fact that the FIFTY phenomenon doesn’t seem to be going anywhere and many similar books are coming out and being bought!
