Carrie Turansky Hi Erin, thanks for reaching out about where to start with my books. No Ocean Too Wide is a great place to start. It is the first of two books that tell about the McAlister siblings and their journey from England to Canada as British Home Children. When their older sister learns they have been taken without their mother's knowledge or permission, she looks for a way to travel to Canada, search, for them and try to reunite the family. There is a sequel set ten years later that tells the rest of their story titled, No Journey Too Far. A Token of Love is my latest novel, It's a dual-time story set in London in 1885 and contemporary time. It features two sisters who are searching for their lost daughter/niece. There is a modern story that connects. It has family drama, a touch of mystery, romance, and inspiration. I hope you'll enjoy them! I'm looking forward to meeting you at MRRR in July. Blessings, Carrie
Carrie Turansky Hi Sheila, thanks for your kind words about No Ocean Too Wide. I'm glad you enjoyed the story. I am working on the sequel now. The release has been delayed until early 2021 because I had cancer surgery and treatment this year and was not able to write for several months. I'm doing well now and back to writing. The next story has the working title A Promise to Keep, but I'm sure that will change. It is set 10 years later and we learn what has happened to Garth as he finished his indentured contract and gone off to fight in WW One. Grace is still missing and the war has slowed the family's ability to search for her. Garth returns to England after the war intent on returning to Canada to see his sweetheart Emma, who was also a British Home Child. While he is with his family they receive word about Grace, so Garth heads back to find his sister and search for his missing sweetheart. I'm excited to share the next part of the family's story with you! Blessings and Happy reading!

Carrie Turansky The best thing about being a writer is hearing from readers who were touched by the themes and characters in my novels. It's so encouraging to know readers enjoyed the story and caught the deeper meaning behind it.
Carrie Turansky I'm reading Finding Lady Enderly by Joanna Davidson Politano, and I'm really enjoying it. I've recently listened to A Light on the Hill by Connilyn Cossette, and My Stubborn Heart by Becky Wade. I've also enjoyed reading Understanding Miss Cecilia by Carolyn Miller and The Number of Love by Roseanna White. My favorite summer read was The Medallion by Cathy Gohlke! It's an amazing WW2 story that will grip your heart.

Carrie Turansky Oh, I love that question! I write historical novels, and our family has some great mysteries in the past that would make terrific plots for novels. One mystery I'd love to solve, by way of a novel, would be the one about the wagon train that disappeared on its way to Oregon. My grandmother told me about this story. Apparently there was a long dry spell, and the leaders disagreed about the best route to find water. The wagon train split in half with my relatives taking the northern route. Those who took the southern route disappeared and never made it to Oregon. I write romance, so we'd have to have the hero go one way and the heroine go the other, and then find a way to solve the mystery and be reunited because I always give my readers a happy ending. . . that will take some more thought. Back to writing!
Carrie Turansky Hi Lexi, I'm sorry, I somehow missed seeing you question. I usually try to answer questions from GoodReads friends right away!

I'm so happy to hear you enjoyed Shine Like the Dawn. I'm just about ready to turn in my next English historical romance, Across the Blue, which comes out early in 2018. It's set in Kent, England, near Dover. The hero is a pilot who designs airplanes and wants to be the first to fly across the English Channel. The heroine is an aspiring journalist who believes his story will be the ticket to launching her career, but her parents want her to focus on finding a husband, not writing for a newspaper. Lots of fun history tucked into this romantic adventure! Happy Reading!
Carrie Turansky Hi Cute Polar Bear, I try to take almost as much time creating my secondary characters as I do my main characters. I write a brief backstory for them and give them goals and conflicts too. Balancing their strengths and weaknesses helps them be more believable. If they are too perfect or have too many flaws they seem less real to me. You might like to visit my website writers' page for some more tips. Thanks for posting a question! Best to you on your writing journey, Carrie www.carrieturansky.com

Take a look at my Pinterest boards for my books and see what I mean. That's a great way to store links for research. I hope that helps. Blessings, Carrie

Carrie Turansky Hi Ally, glad my "Ask the Author" description gave you a smile. My favorite flavor of ice cream is Jamocha Almond Fudge. Ahhh....but right now I'm eating gluten-free, sugar-free, and dairy-free (expect for homemade kefir) to help with some health issues. It's working! I'm grateful, but I do miss ice cream! Blessings and happy reading, Carrie
