D.C. Alexander There is always something that wants to get on the page. I start typing, I guess I have never had writer's block. I get writer's empty, where the brain is not wanting to play; or writers pain, where my poor crippled right wrist is swollen and painful(worse when I've been using axe and shovel), but I got a wristpad. I just type and seems like there is something there that wants to get said. Eventually. You can always delete some or all of it later. Get 'er done.
D.C. Alexander Wow, there are so many good things..lets see, My first review on Amazon was 5 stars, and more than a page. Out of nowhere, this wonderful person said such fantastic things about my book that it brought tears to my eyes. I had no idea people would like it so well!! My next door neighbor bought the first paperback and asked me to sign it...that was a high. Comments on facebook have all been fantastic. Getting the book out in public was amazing. so far there isn't a downside.
D.C. Alexander Do it. Quit with the excuses. Yeah, whatever you just muttered, that doesn't matter either. Write it down. No, stay away from that written part, it aint time yet. (Slang and regional accent on purpose). Just do it. If you hear the music that goes with that, you are in the right headspace. Go back after 50,000 words and do all that editing, don't proofread it before that, unless it is a shorter work. I do go back and read the story every now and again, to get me on the right track for writing, be careful you don't fix that extra comma and proceed to edit it all.
D.C. Alexander The next book in the series. I have promised (Provisionally) that I will get it out by the end of March. It wants out, all I gotta do is take the time to get it on paper (or screen, actually).
D.C. Alexander I start typing, see the scene, and explain it. I have tried using outlines and other things like that; they don't work for me, the book kinda goes like it wants to. After I get finished I go back and fix spellings, consistency, and so on, and delete anything that doesn't fit. Mostly. Sometimes my beta readers force me to put stuff back in, I save everything I take out.
D.C. Alexander I wrote a standard urban fantasy book. It had no depth, looking back at it, all I can say is ouch! I submitted it to a lot of publishing agents and got my first rejections. They said 'already been done, same ol' same ol', we aint looking for that, you need to do more off the beaten track' basically. In a snit, I started writing an exaggerated satire. The main character came to life and took they story away from me, I actually watched in amazement as it started pretty much writing itself.
