Mira Brooks An empty plate, waiting for you to fill it... like a blank page... I'm curious myself... safe bet on noodles of some fashion. This question is the bain of my existence. How do you satisfy 5 picky eatters everyday, while still managing to work and cook real meals? Tonight, maybe ill let them fend for themselves... that way they're all upset, and might appreciate tomorrow nights supper. Ha.
Mira Brooks Any fictional book world, hrm... probably the New York Dom's club, in Jane Henry's series. I loved His Babygirl, book 3... I read the set, and I'd love to visit... that or Jane Austin's Pride and Prejudice. I love the old english countryside with their castles and wry decorum.
Mira Brooks Any new Jane Henry, Atla Hensley or Zoe Blake, although, I will spend more time writing, I hope, than reading.
The Third book in the Insula Series, Quinn is still in the works, plus a new shifter series I'm writing is close to launching Book 1.
Some of my close family are not doing well, making writing harder to do lately. It's hard to explore your passion when your heart is breaking. However, this is life. Part of any good book is creating an emotional impact on the reader. As a writer, I examine parts of life that make me feel for the characters I'm creating. Any adult has experience they can draw from. Channeling the emotion, to make your pain real to an audience, can be great for writing because of the raw emotion of the writer. It just sucks being the person behind the keyboard during those really inspirational moments. This summer, my writing may look a little darker because of what's going on around me. I also, do intend to catch up on those authors listed above when my own brain won't cooperate. Lol.
Mira Brooks 18 years of schooling has given me great tools for writing. Adjectives and description is key... remember what you like in a good book. Add mystery, action or themes you enjoy. You are telling a story, short or long, you need a Beginning, Middle and End. BME.
HAPPY WRITING!
Mira Brooks I take a break and consider the situation I'm stuck on. How would I handle it? How would I like the story to continue if I was reading it? If it is really stumping me, I close the window and open a new one. There is no rule that each piece you start has to be finished before you begin another. Write when inspiration strikes and stop when it has gone dormant. Sometimes I will go watch something or read something to give my own brain a rest and inspiration will spark again. It is a process. You have to navigate the waters like anything else in your life. Some is hard and some is easy.
Mira Brooks For me, seeing the characters you've spent so much time with actually come to life in the readers mind. Some readers get so invested. It is like with a good movie or TV show, when you can create someone who people feel very strongly about that is a gift. Even if they HATE the character and think he or she is a complete asshole. It made them feel a strong emotion. I think the worst thing would be to have your reader walk away not feeling invested in the characters. Even if they leave a lower review because they hated one or two, they got invested enough to dislike or love them. Creating an emotional response to these fictitious people is a big goal of mine when I'm writing. I think about the characteristics I like or dislike in people I know. Giving your character the qualities brings them to life.
Mira Brooks Trudge through. If you get stuck shift your focus to another idea and leave the book your stuck on alone for a bit. When you get inspired to pick it up again do it. However, I think a reader can read when an author is rushing or bored with a story. Write when you feel inspired.
Mira Brooks I am currently working on Book 3 of the Keller's of Beaumont Falls. Ty and Brynn. They are doctors working over in Nepal since the earthquake hit in 2015. You will see most of the other characters make an appearance as well. I think it will be a nice addition to the series.

Also, I'm working on one that takes place at Fortress Louisbourg during its heyday. One on former lovers who lost touch and he didn't know he had a daughter and one where the couple are big into mudrunning. Your guess is as good as mine which will be done first, but if I was to hazard a guess, Ty and Brynn...
Mira Brooks I draw inspiration from everywhere. It might be a show or documentary. It could be a book, because I am an avid reader myself, or it could be a past experience. I have a very vivid imagination, and every night I tell myself a story to help fall asleep. If it one I get stuck on I usually start to write about it.
Mira Brooks Border Crosser: The Bear King's Bride... I was teaching a bit about native culture after reading the book by Gord Downie, The Secret path. I live in an area with a strong native culture around me, and I liked the idea of 2 tribes fighting both with this strong primarily oral culture. Oral culture can be manipulated to suit the people telling it. It is less concrete. It makes for a bit of flexibility for a writer. Also, I was watching the new series Frontier which gave me this image of primitive society. Add in forbidden love, and you have the basis of an interesting story.
