Goodreads asked Mira Brooks:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Mira Brooks Border Crosser: The Bear King's Bride... I was teaching a bit about native culture after reading the book by Gord Downie, The Secret path. I live in an area with a strong native culture around me, and I liked the idea of 2 tribes fighting both with this strong primarily oral culture. Oral culture can be manipulated to suit the people telling it. It is less concrete. It makes for a bit of flexibility for a writer. Also, I was watching the new series Frontier which gave me this image of primitive society. Add in forbidden love, and you have the basis of an interesting story.
