Goodreads asked Mira Brooks:

What’s the best thing about being a writer?

Mira Brooks For me, seeing the characters you've spent so much time with actually come to life in the readers mind. Some readers get so invested. It is like with a good movie or TV show, when you can create someone who people feel very strongly about that is a gift. Even if they HATE the character and think he or she is a complete asshole. It made them feel a strong emotion. I think the worst thing would be to have your reader walk away not feeling invested in the characters. Even if they leave a lower review because they hated one or two, they got invested enough to dislike or love them. Creating an emotional response to these fictitious people is a big goal of mine when I'm writing. I think about the characteristics I like or dislike in people I know. Giving your character the qualities brings them to life.
