“I told Georgie and the others that for a cheeseburger, I'd do just about anything. But having an alien lay claim to me feels…weird. I don't even get a choice? This is like me saying "I want a cheeseburger" and someone slapping a pickle into my hand and saying "Fuck you, you get a pickle.”
Ruby Dixon, Barbarian Alien
“Cockblocked by the aliens. Damn it.”
Ruby Dixon, Barbarian Alien
“I’m kidnapped by aliens, forced to eke out a living on an ice planet, and now I’m basically married to Mr. Tall, Dark, and Super Pissy.”
Ruby Dixon, Barbarian Alien
“Instead, I have the alien version of Grumpy Cat, and he just roped and tied me like a calf at a rodeo. Asshole.”
Ruby Dixon, Barbarian Alien
“He wants to lie down like a couple? That's fine - this can be his first experience with the wifely cold shoulder. Welcome to married life, Raahosh.”
Ruby Dixon, Barbarian Alien
“Now I see why Georgie was totally cool with Vektal claiming her as his mate. If he’s anything like Raahosh, he dicked the brains right out of her.”
Ruby Dixon, Barbarian Alien
“My mate. My Liz. You are my everything.” Yep, definitely hard to stay mad at that.”
Ruby Dixon, Barbarian Alien
“Before you arrived here in this world, I had nothing to live for. I hunted. I existed. I did not look forward to anything. But now you are here, and you might be carrying my child even now.” His jaw flexes. “I know you are more than capable. The problem is not with you. It is with me. This world is dangerous, and I think of you, alone, out in the wild, and it is more than I can bear.”
Ruby Dixon, Barbarian Alien
“Before you arrived here in this world, I had nothing to live for. I hunted. I existed. I did not look forward to anything. This world is dangerous, and I think of you, alone, out in the wild, and it is more than I can bear.” He stares at me for so long and so hard that I think his jaw is going to snap from grinding his teeth. “If I lose you,” he finally says gruffly, “I have nothing.”
Ruby Dixon, Barbarian Alien
“Please let Georgie have given you the world's greatest prostate tickle and convinced you that Raahosh and I need to be together.”
Ruby Dixon, Barbarian Alien
“Once again I am being held hostage for my vagina," She sighs. "What is it with you aliens? Can't a girl just make her own decisions for once? Is that so freaking hard?"
"The khui has decided," I tell her.
She gives a small shake of her head. "It's always someone else's decision. When's it going to be mine?"
I watch her, frustrated. There is no decision to be made. The khui has decided. And yet... I don't like the way her words make me feel.
Or the defeat in her voice. Liz is a fighter. I don't want her to give up.”
Ruby Dixon, Barbarian Alien
“I’m fine,” I bellow a little louder than I need to. I lean forward and grab Raahosh by the collar. “Are you listening to me? I’m fine, and you’re going to be fine. Don’t you die on me!” He doesn’t answer, and I panic a little. I shake him, eliciting another wounded groan from him. I don’t care. If he’s groaning, he’s alive. “Don’t you fucking leave me, Raahosh.” I release him and smooth his clothing down, then lean in, putting my hand over his chest. His khui vibrates at my touch, and I decide bribery is the best weapon I have. I place my mouth close to his ear. “If you come out of this alive, Raahosh, I’ll fuck the hell out of you, so help me God.”
Ruby Dixon, Barbarian Alien
“Now, when I imagine happiness, I imagine her face. It doesn’t matter that she is different – she is mine and I am hers.”
Ruby Dixon, Barbarian Alien
“Does a girl in the forest stink if there's no one around to smell her?”
Ruby Dixon, Barbarian Alien
“If we catch something, I might even let you wash my back.” I will find her the slowest, most sluggish creature in all the snows so she may fill it with her darts.”
Ruby Dixon, Barbarian Alien
“Wait a fucking moment. Was that English?”
Ruby Dixon, Barbarian Alien
“Do you not understand, Raahosh? You’re my life. You’re my reason for living. When those aliens took us away from everything, I felt…lost. I’m not lost when I’m with you. I’m happy.” I touch his cheek. “I’m complete.”

“My mate,” he murmurs. “My Liz. My everything.”

“All yours,” I tell him. And it’s the truth. As long as I’m with Raahosh, the world can snow all it wants, the tribe can pile all the work they want on us, and we can sleep in the hunter caves.

As long as I’m with him, I’m happy.”
Ruby Dixon, Barbarian Alien
“Stop, or i will take you here in front of the others.”
Ruby Dixon, Barbarian Alien
“We will track kills together, and bunk down in caves and make love during the long winter nights... And Liz will yammer the entire time and scare off all the game.”
Ruby Dixon, Barbarian Alien
“To think I can have a companion after so long. I have my tribe, but I have always felt...alone. On the outside. Perhaps it was because I never had a mate, or a lover. I assumed no one wanted me.”
Ruby Dixon, Barbarian Alien
“It’s not the worst thing to be the center of someone’s universe.”
Ruby Dixon, Barbarian Alien
“I only see what others have that I do not.”
Ruby Dixon, Barbarian Alien
“Perhaps it was because I never had a mate, or a lover. I assumed no one wanted me.”
Ruby Dixon, Barbarian Alien
“You lied to me!” That makes me angry. She thinks I willfully deceived her? For what purpose? “How did I do such a thing?” “You never told me!”
Ruby Dixon, Barbarian Alien
“Mine,” he growls, and buries his face between my legs again. He begins to lick me again, and I squeal. I lie back, ready to be all his like he just said and— Wait a fucking moment. Was that English? I sit up on my elbows and stare down at the alien licking me out. “What did you just say?”
Ruby Dixon, Barbarian Alien
“Curious, I follow a safe distance behind. What is she up to? I wish the khui let me read her thoughts, because my human mate is impossible to understand.”
Ruby Dixon, Barbarian Alien
“Liz turns away and pads out of the cave on quiet feet, my spear in her hand. Well, now I have to see what is going through her mind. I roll from the bed and decide to follow a safe distance behind.”
Ruby Dixon, Barbarian Alien
“She’s fierce, my Liz. I like that. And if she thinks she’s going to scare me away with a slap on the cheek, she is very wrong. I grin to myself as she grabs the blankets and huffs away, deliberately turning her back to me. I can still hear her khui thrumming. It gives away how”
Ruby Dixon, Barbarian Alien
“I am being coerced by wide eyes and a simple touch. I know it’s all to manipulate me, but I find I don’t care.”
Ruby Dixon, Barbarian Alien
“The resonance that starts in her chest at my touch tells me our bond is bothering her as much as it is me. Good.”
Ruby Dixon, Barbarian Alien
