“I blushed, looking around at all the dancers. All the girls look so beautiful. And the boys handsome.
I’m not any of that. “R-Ravyn.” I said, as he twirled me around. “D-do you really think I’m beautiful?”
Ravyn chuckled with a faint smile. “More than you know.” We danced between a row of women.
A smile came to my lips.“Do y-you think anyone here is more pretty?”
Ravyn shook his head. “If all the women in the world were combined,” He brushed his fingers against my cheek. “They would look ugly against you.”
“What if I am ugly.”
“Your not.” Ravyn said.
“No. If I-I were.”
Ravyn had a thoughtful look, his glanced to the ceiling before lowering his eyes on mine. “Then,” He tilted his head. “I would bruise myself, cut my skin, and make my teeth decay.” He put his mouth to my ear, his breath fresh and warm. “Only so you don’t feel lonely.”

“That’s not the point!” I nearly shouted, causing a few heads to turn. “You’re eighteen. You should know better. She’s still a child, and you took advantage of her.”
Harry leaned back, crossing his arms behind his head, a self-satisfied grin on his face. “Don’t lecture me, Ravyn. Willow can make her own decisions.”
I stepped closer, eyes blazing with fury. “If you ever hurt her, Harry, you’ll regret it. Stay away from her, or you’ll have me to deal with.”
Harry chuckled, a mocking sound that made my blood boil even more. “Do I sense jealousy?” he asked, his voice laced with sarcasm.
I had the urge to strangle him, or punch his nose, my hands were eager to do it. Looking at him, with his arms crossed and how he was leaning back against the window. He fueled that murderous anger in my soul. No I can’t do it again. “The Masquerade,” I said grinding my teeth, not even looking at him. “If I hear anything that you…”
“I wouldn’t. I swear.” Harry defended.
I looked to him. Face scrunched in serious anger. “Good, because it won’t just be your heart that will be broken.”

“Ravyn threw his face again and replied in a hushed tone that I could still hear. “Expelled isn’t good enough. You deserve…expelled from life.” With that Harry began to cry, and I couldn’t help but feel sorry. “Ravyn!” I screamed my voice resounding through the courtyard. “Please stop!”

“Larke dropped me off, his armour shining beautifully in the moonlight. “Keep out of the woods. It may be your last few days, hours, minutes or even perhaps seconds.”

“Well at least I’d have something to look forward too. Too me I found detentions fun. It allowed me to perhaps make friends with the host. Back at the Eldergrove school a small shack of a building I was constantly in trouble, so much so that I got to know the old farts personal life.”

“The Lead remained silent. I waited eagerly and fearfully of his next words. “I suppose you are right.” His face came back to me and he knelt down. “But remember this I do not take betrayals lightly. Disobedience faces a punishment worse than death.” I gulped and nodded, my fear draining away. “Good. Now then shall we unmask?”

“Ravyn’s smile brightened, but I couldn’t shake the sadness that lingered in my heart. I have to focus on the positive, I reminded myself. Maybe one day, things will be different.”

“Remember students. Necromancy is to be respected. It is about as much listening as speaking. Respect the spirits, and they will respect you.”

“These were times I cherished. Times of friendship and joy. It was like a small light in a world plagued with dark.”

“You will each enter alone,” Alaric continued, his gaze fixed on us. “What you see, what you experience, will be unique to you. Remember, courage is about confronting and overcoming fear, not avoiding it.”

“It was sort of depressing to think about. You can’t stay in one place forever, can you?”

“Where's your hope?” I said.
Crowsel snorted. “Mate. I lost that a long time ago.”

“He looked towards me, his eyes red and swollen. “You don’t understand.” He shook his head, his voice dry. “I was meant to bring salvation to my followers.”
“Through a demonic lord?” I growled threatening him with the weapon. “And how does that work exactly?”

“Xaroth’s eyes gleamed, a dangerous light flickering within them. “The path to greatness is never without its sacrifices.”

“My first mustache.” Jarke stroked above his lip. “Ravyn can you see it yet?” He put his face close to mine. I could barely see a few hairs. “Jarke, if you keep waiting for that mustache to show up, it might just end up on your gravestone as ‘Here lies Jarke, still waiting for puberty.”
“Well, if it does show up,” Jarke said. “I hope the girls don’t mistake it for a caterpillar trying to make a break for it. Though, on the bright side, I might get some kisses… from entomologists.” He took a sip of his drink as Crowsel chuckled darkly, “Just make sure it doesn’t end up strangling you in your sleep. I’d hate for your first kiss to be with the Grim Reaper.”
Jarke grinned. “At least I’ll have a more interesting epitaph than you two. ‘Here lies Jarke, kissed by death, stubble at last.”

“Jarke continued snorting. “I eat pretty cheap to be honest.” He shrugged. “Give me some beans on toast and I’ll be as happy as a dog with a bone.”
Crowsel rolled his eyes. “Beans on toast?” He stirred his drink. “Mate that sounds like a hobo’s meal.”
“I cook it myself sometimes.” Jarke added with a pointed finger. “Though I always get crispy bits in the bean sauce.”
“Mate.” Crowsel said. “You probably burned it.”
“Most likely.” Jarke shrugged. “But it tastes great anyway.”

“Xaroth strode out as the bell rang, blood on his hands. “Tell me why the hell you skipped school?” he growled, eyes burning with anger.
Orion shook his head in shame. I stared at the dragon unwavering. “Had to handle some business,” I replied, his voice steady. “And I’d do it again if it meant protecting us.”

“In my times at Midnight Academy, I encountered many students who held their dark secrets. But none were as strange and mysterious as Imbill Morth”

“Still they did nothing, the scents of the fire and coffee raging me even further, but I kept my cool. “Is this it?” Rupert held out a jar. I ran over snatching it off him. “Where?” I asked relived to see it again.
“In the kitchen.” Rupert pointed his head in the direction. “You must of_”
“No!” I yelled. I wouldn’t be foolish enough to do that. “So was it you?” I accused Rupert pressing my fingers against him. “I wouldn’t,” He looked innocent enough. “I know how much tea means to you.”
“You do,” I replied giving up my search for I couldn’t be bothered anymore. I had my tea again.
And I needed cups of it.”

“Ravyn, you should totally try this new lip gloss. It’s got a hint of sparkle that would match your charming smile perfectly. Who says guys can’t rock a little gloss and dazzle everyone?” Ravyn held a laugh nodding knowing if he said no Emma would only go deeper.
“And look like Professor Muir?” Matt snorted making a crude joke about the transformation teacher. “Seriously I still haven’t discovered its gender.”

“Orion tilted his head a chuckle escaping his smile. “You don’t like tea?” He sounded curious and mocking. “Gods of the night.” He murmured. “What sane person doesn’t like tea.”

“Though his irritating remarks made my head feel like it was being pounded into the ground. I still loved him for the way he is. Him changing would only ruin himself. “Listen Crowsel,” I began taking his shoulder and removing his glass from his hands. “This is going to sound really cheesy, and I mean cheesy.” I paused digging down to find my words. Crowsel looked at me with wide eyes. “Don’t ever change. Not even for a minute. No matter what anyone tells you. Don’t. I love you for who you are. My brother. You changing would be like a stranger replacing the guy I know best.”

“Fern,” I sighed, thinking of her obsessive love for me. “Jealousy is a curious thing, isn’t it, Miriam?”
Miriam nodded as she began to pick Bella up. “It really is, Orion. Fern has always been the jealous type, hasn’t she?”

“Xaroth rubbed his snout as smoke flew out his nostrils. “Let me tell you this, Moonberry.” He intoned, in a voice that made my blood run cold. “The path I tread is one paved with the bones of those who dared defy me. Each scar on my scales is a testament to the countless souls who have fallen before me, crushed under the weight of my wrath.”
He paused, his eyes narrowing into slits, a cruel smile playing on his lips. “You may see me as a tyrant, a creature of unrelenting pride, but know this: my actions are driven by a relentless pursuit of power. They are the manifestations of a soul that revels in the destruction and despair I leave in my wake.”
Xaroth leaned in closer, his voice dropping to a chilling whisper, each word laced with malice. “I have watched kingdoms burn, their glories turned to ashes. I have seen comrades, bound by honor and duty, fall in the heat of battle, their dying screams a symphony to my ears. The thrill of victory is a heady intoxication, one that fuels the darkness within me.”
