Notes:
(1) "Greek Myth Land is full of triple goddesses: The Fates. The Gray Sisters. The Furies. Destiny's Child. I couldn't keep track of them all."
- Um, actually, Destiny's Child was originally a foursome, Mister Riordan. They weren't an established trio until like three albums in.
- I can understand Beyoncé, but the others aren't near god-tier.

Notes:
(1) "[Grover] danced around the edge of the mob playing his panpipes. Once he made it to the gate, he skipped backward toward the park, blasting out the Ghostbusters theme song, which is guaranteed to enrage anyone with mortal ears."
- Huh, I thought Riordan was all about the '80s.
- You'd think folks would love that song on Halloween.

Notes:
(1) "I grinned and spun the torches in slow motion like Bruce Lee with nunchakus."
- I don't think Bruce Lee did anything in slow motion... well, maybe in "The Green Hornet."
- I'm not sure Percy knows what nunchakus are. I mean, torches don't move that way. He's probably confusing them with escrima sticks, which Bruce Lee also used in films.

Notes:
(1) "...a college-age sales dude with green hair [was] typing away on his phone while humming along to an all-violin version of 'So Yesterday' ... 'Hey, I love this song!' Grover said."
- Keen observers will remember that in "The Lightning Thief," Hilary Duff's "So Yesterday" is one of only two songs Grover knew how to play on his reed pipes.

Notes:
(1) Percy discovers a new special ability: he can write messages with Riptide that regular mortals can't see.
- Imagine that? Percy's ballpoint pen can be used for writing!
(2) I'm disappointed in the lack of action and also pop culture references.
- The only monsters we've seen are friendly pets.
- Though Riordan's touristy tidbits are back. New York's fairly interesting if overrated.

Jayson is starting
Notes:
(1) I pre-ordered this book and just got it in the mail yesterday.
- I also pre-ordered "The Chalice of the Gods," but never got around to it until about a month ago, in time to read before this one was released.
(2) I liked "The Chalice of the Gods" well enough, though it never felt substantial. More like a really long short story padded out with loads of nostalgia.
- I expect pretty much the same thing here.

Jayson (2) They've decided to brand this sequel series "The Senior Year Adventures."
- Makes a lot of sense. They're definitely a different tone and scope than the original series of annual world-saving adventures.
- I'm guessing they'll rebrand the first book in subsequent editions, or at least the cover.
(3) "My big takeaway was that Hecate was going trick-or-treating. She seemed to believe that Halloween had been created just for her."
- I don't know, I wouldn't exactly dismiss the possibility. A lot of modern-ish things in this universe are down to divine inspiration. Especially with so many demigods running around.
(4) Hecate: "You may bring those friends of yours... Anna and Groverbeth."
- Reminds me of Harry Potter when Slughorn would always get Ron's name wrong. Particularly similar since Hecate takes the form of a school principal.
(5) There's no shortage of demigods, yet Percy's the one all the gods want to carry out their missions.
- Percy's a victim of his own success... or perhaps the gods all know Annabeth comes as part of the deal.
(6) "All through the [Cracked Teapot] café, shelves were filled with—you guessed it—cracked teapots."
- Thank goodness for the tea! Otherwise it'd just be filled with cracked pots and draw crackpots.
(7) Paul Blofis being a jazz fan in the last book is continued here with a Charles Mingus reference.
- That's so obscure, even I had to look it up. Middle-graders stand no chance!
(8) Percy orders a blueberry smoothie, which I wouldn't count as a blue food since blueberry purée is purple.
- Grover orders coffee and a strawberry muffin, probably on account of the camp strawberry fields.
(9) Given the last book, I'm somewhat surprised Riordan's not been milking nostalgia.
- I mean, there's vague references to past adventures and other campers, but nothing all that blatant.
(10) Pet-sitting for Hecate and deciding to use her place for a haunted house feels like a recipe for disaster, and a bit contrived to be honest.
- House party while the parents are out of town is such an '80s conceit.
(11) Hecate: "Once, this mansion was a school for magic—"
Percy: "Weird concept."
- Riordan can't help himself with the Harry Potter digs.
(12) Hecate makes Percy, Annabeth and Grover camp out in her living room.
- Good thing Grover's there. The last time Percy and Annabeth slept alone in the same room together, it caused a major scandal!
(13) Chapter Six is titled "Raw Chicken Carcasses and Where to Find Them."
- Riordan can't help himself with the Harry Potter digs.
