The setting in And Then There Were None is important in the plot of the story. It sets the mood. The mansion is bright and bare, and the island is pretty simple too- without any good hiding spots. The ten strangers are alone without communication of anyone but themselves. This makes it very mysterious when one by one people are killed, because everyone notices they can be living with the murderer.
