random question: would a girl in 1815 know about bombs? like "it felt like she was holding a bomb in her hand and it would go off any minute." That doesn't seem like a normal thought for the early 1800s

"Oh my look at the time. I have to get back." bit modern there- I'm sure there's a decent story buried in here beneath the too-modern sounding bits, and the overly old-fashioned sounding bits.

"If he rose. Walked around. Perhaps that would help. He fought to stand." the whole book is written like this-full of sentence fragments and short sentences. Have we never heard of the comma? It's super handy and useful.

this is a book where I want to call out the editor and yell "WTH? Did you fail basic grammar?"

I have tried several times to get into this book, but between the sentence fragments (seriously, editor, where were you?) and the annoying words I don't know and don't have a glossary for (Domnuathi-anyone? what is this?) I think I'll table this for a bit.

"She was saying what she thought she was saying." awkward sentence, that. I hope this one improves...

"Would the wards that kept him alive and untouchable unravel within the sea god Lir's cold fathoms, bringing the solace he craved?" Uh oh...emo hero, dead ahead

You're right. That's an odd statement to make.

Well...maybe? Bombs of one form or another have been around a very long time. I guess it could depend if her upbringing and education was less conservative than that of most ladies at that time.
it felt very out of place, is all. I mean, I know they've had some form of bomb since the creation of flaming arrows, flaming rocks launched from catapults, etc...I guess it just was kind of like "Wait, what? no one would say that back then, would they?" to me it's like see a girl from 1815 say "Cool dude"
I'll have to quote it exactly to see what everyone thinks, lemme grab the book:"In her experience, letters never boded well. Like holding an unexploded bomb in your hand."
Uh...yeah, that doesn't work. I honestly can't see that as an every day expression a gentlewoman would use back in the day.
even better, she's a Lord's daughter, but is now a novice nun but secretly her cloister isn't catholic, they are magic.
Michelle R, the Bookshelf Stalker wrote: "Laura the Highland Hussy wrote: "I'm only 11pages in!!"oh no!"
someone else pointed out how she could barely get through the book for sentence fragments...and that normally doesn't bother me, y'know? but wow, I now see what she means.
I hope the plot and characters are awesome enough to keep this one afloat.
