Baba, I just saw the status update that (I think) referred to you. I'm so sorry you had to see it, and those comments are beyond vicious. I'm ashamed that some of them are friends with me on here but their comments just proved I need to hit the unfriend button. I followed Feifei's status update, linked to a generic update someone made on GR yesterday.

Just saw this status update and finally got it.
Baba, how - I don't know, assumed the status update AND ALL THE COMMENTS following where destined to her.

And this I know of thanks to Feifei Update earlier, with links and all, pointing ALL the commenters to be "bullying" Baba. Inviting everyone to unfriend people for mysterious reasons.
But I'm glad to know what is was all about, thanks to Feifei.

Then feel free to clarify who the status was directed at. Even if it's thrown out there for the sake of it, NO ONE should be treated that way. So what if said person's reviews are super long? It's not my place, your place, or Irene's place to judge. Has Irene never posted a lengthy negative review? I doubt it.

What I really don't understand is the link between Irene's update and Baba's update. Or there is history I'm not aware of.

I thought you'd say that. So you ladies talk about a certain someone and say it's not Baba, but you won't tell us who either. I guess it's safe for me to think (and everyone else) that you guys could be talking about anyone. Not sure how others would feel. Maybe we should all just post positive things about books Irene loved in fear she might post a status update saying people who don't like the books she liked should get laid.

Perhaps you're exactly right about the history part. In any case, it's not okay to talk about someone like the way Irene did. She clearly is targeting a specific someone who posted something negative about a book she loved - and as for Baba's connection to her update? Well...maybe you should read between the lines.

Personally I don't give a damn not liking a book Irene loved and vice versa. I would tell my honest opinion about it, no matter the reviewer. I made close friends here with whom I have divergent opinion / taste, all the time.
So no, today is not the day I'm going to lick Irene's ass, if that's what you are suggesting.
I'm not going to talk for Irene, because it is not my place to do so and because the update was so generic I wonder why someone would make assumption and state all of sudden : "they are talking about me / her ", so it is not MY place to say.

What I can explain and tell you is this :
I have fun with my friends bantering about "long rant reviews".
I have fun with my friends bantering about books we didn't like.
I have fun with my friends bantering about books we do not agree on.
I have fun with my friends bantering about books we loved.
I have fun with my friends cursing and messing as usual here on Goodreads.

What I did not appreciate is being clearly pointed at as a "bully", because I had fun with some friends about THINGS that annoys me on GR just like in real life. I said I wished to have a fuck off button here. So?

It's our place as reviewers ( well, not mine since I'm not doing a great job at it in english) to JUDGE books, but reviewers can't have a say about reviews and critics?

Those comments boxes are just to compliment everyone then?

If you expected me to target someone specific you will be now disappointed. I really don't know why I would do that when all I said was stating an honest opinion about something annoying me on GR. Just move on? So we are now only writing reviews about the books we like? I always do it that way because I feel bad for some authors but I am more than entitled to post a negative review when I pay for a book and I waste my precious time reading it so with all my respect I have to tell you I completely disagree with what you said. ^^She points out a WHO and then in a comment below she follows up with criticizing the person/group of people who post long negative reviews following negative status updates. So no, it's not fucking generic at all. She even clarifies in a comment below that it's directed at "a group of individuals." So it might not be about Baba (though the timing and wording of the post/comments suggest otherwise). That makes it okay to post such a harsh update?

As for what you have fun doing with your friends keep doing it if it makes you happy. It's not my place to judge. And for the record I never pointed you out as a bully. I wasn't friends with you before and I only blocked you why?

^for that. IMO that comment couldn't have been more rude or disrespectful and you and others affirmed Irene's statement. I'll be honest with you, I was plain furious with Irene for instigating all of this and posting that comment but I was hurt first when the rest of you affirmed her statement. You know damn well what YOUR update status was about. So your comments in that status update. And my answers were clearly making mention of it. You with that update were targeting all the commenters with a URL linked to the "infamous" post.

At any point did you read any of the commenters pointing someone else?

I'm not dense at all, Alleskelle. The point of time she posted the update and HOW it was worded (it was aimed at a specific person and not several individuals) and especially the comment about the review following the negative updates that is so long that it needs its own review…really, it's very obvious. One doesn't need to be the brightest bulb in the box to make THAT connection. I can read between the lines. And I disagree, the update wasn't harsh, it was downright insulting and vicious.
And that f@ck off button you suggested GR should implement…nice touch. I'm impressed. Not. Nothing justifies such mean updates/comments and even if it hadn't been about me nobody deserves to be on the receiving end of those nasties. You know I "like" tons of reviews even though I don't necessarily agree with the reviewer's opinion but so what? It's a book site for Pete's sake and we're bound to have divergences. And lastly, since you don't like extensive negative reviews/rants then why don't you look the other way and move on.

I also noticed that whatever I'm doing it won't be to everyone's liking. I can DNF a book and post a negative review and then readers will call me out telling me I have no right to rate a book I haven't finished and when I finish a book and post a negative review some will bitch about it and say I should move on without extensively reviewing it. Whatever. I can't please everybody.

That's the crux of the matter, isn't it? It could be about me or someone else, which as you pointed out, Baba, isn't really much of a comfort. I'd like to be able to bitch and moan about a book, about my reading funk, etc. So sue me! :D But seriously though, no matter how hard we bitch about a book, we do move on with our lives. I personally leave my bitching and moaning about a book here on GR. In RL, I bitch and moan about other non-book things. It works. So, B, if you want someone to bitch and moan with, I'm here. LOL!

Well, holy crap!! I must be out in "La La land"!!LOL This has been going on since May 16 and its the first I see it!! YIKES..I need to jump of my cloud once in awhile..Either that, or bring you up there with me Baba! I am horrified by what is going on. I absolutely adore GR and the people that I meet on here. I love having a community to come to and talk about the books that I love so much. I cherish each and every person that have been kind to me on here; but this utterly disgusts me that someone is targeting my dear Baba..and anyone else for that matter. Isn't this site supposed to be about meeting people, and be able to have the freedom to express our opinions on the books that we like and dislike. Of course, not everyone is going to like that same things, or for that matter certain reviews we write. The key is though, that when someone writes a review, it is an extension of who they are. They are writing how they feel and from their heart. I would hate for someone to attack me for writing what I feel whether good or bad. I speak for myself when I say that I respect everyone who takes time out of their busy schedules to write reviews. I have always admire the people who add those neat gifs..I tried it once and found out just how much time that takes! So, I certainly applaud the longer reviews and ones with gifs..these people do not have to spend their personal time to write them..but they do, and I am grateful because I am entertained as well as I can find out what I might like to read, or what I might choose to pass..But guess what..that is the choice I make...
Anyway, I will stop now; but I just want to say that Baba; I am so sorry that you are being targeted yet again. I feel so sad that that happens..but please know I love the heck out of you, and I think you are just so special. It takes a strong person to rise above the bullshit that some people dish out, and you woman are one of the strongest ladies I know.. So chin up, and know that little old me in Canada loves you dearly and feels blessed to have come across you in my life!!! You shouldn't worry, Jen, because I know you're very busy with real life. I completely agree with everything you said. As a reader I don't want to censor my opinion and that's one of the positive aspects of a good reading forum: different and honest opinions that will always reflect distinct reading tastes. Not every book will work out for every reader and it's good to point out what we liked or disliked. I will never tell anyone how they should review a book because it's something personal and none of my business and I expect the same vice versa. As you said so nicely we all take the time out to read and review a lot of books and we should respect that. As long as we recognize the GR guidelines I see no wrong in posting long reviews or rants for books I hated.
