Tris is put under the truth serum once more to see if she is a traitor and a theif. She is not convicted but she decides to leave the city to see who is out beyond the fence. They start towards the fence with a small group of people. The factionless begin to shoot at them and tori then dies. They get away from the factionless and leave the city on amity trucks

They meet Amar- Tobias' ded instructor and they drive to a compound in a large tarped over truck. They get to the compound and begin talking about what is really on the outside world. People were geneticaly modified and put into these large cities as a social expirement to see if the genetically modified genes would fix themselves- creating geneticaly perfect human beings.
