(1)"My leg hair. I was so happy when it grew back in, too. As if it were a sign that things might be returning to normal. I run my fingers along the soft, curly down on my legs."
- If not already, Peeta better learn to love it too.
(2) "Boys got to keep their body hair ... I can remember Peeta's now ... Very blond in the sunlight."
- Katniss is really into body hair.

- "Last dozen"? How many dozens were there?
(2) "My shaking hands slide the wire from the hilt, wind it around the arrow just above the feathers, and secure it with a knot picked up in training."
- Know your knots, people!

(1) "It wasn't real, I tell myself. The same way the muttation wolves last year weren't really the dead tributes. It's just a sadistic trick of the Gamemakers."
- Finally! After nearly a whole book we get confirmation about it.
(2) "If only one of us can be a parent, anyone can see it should be Peeta."
- Well, obviously. Peeta's the better person for nearly anything.

Notes:
(1) "Wiress ... starts quietly singing some funny little song, about a mouse running up a clock. It must be for children, but it seems to make her happy."
- I guess "Hickory Dickory Dock" isn't very popular in District 12.
(2) "I go back to imagining killing the president."
- Seems like killing the president is Katniss' happy place. Well, whatever keeps her centered.

Notes:
(1) "The only thing that distracts me from my current situation is fantasizing about killing President Snow. Not very pretty daydreams for a seventeen-year-old girl, I guess, but very satisfying."
- Katniss sounding like a serial killer. Well, if there was ever a time.
(2) Peeta: "Well, it must be monkey hour."
- Monkey Hour sounds fun! Wait... right, murder monkeys.

(1) "[Johanna] steps forward before I can react and slaps me so hard I see stars ... Finnick tosses her writhing body over his shoulder and carries her out into the water and repeatedly dunks her while she screams a lot of really insulting things at me."
- That's one way to cool her temper.
- Something tells me he wouldn't get away with this if he wasn't so handsome.

(2) "The monkeys explode into a shrieking mass of orange fur."
- The shrieking seems like the worst part.

- Possibly that's the idea... to kill Tributes off quicker.
(2) "Now I'm so thankful I didn't kill Finnick, because how would I have gotten Peeta out of here alive? So thankful to have someone else on my side."
- Katniss learns the value of friendship.

The chunk of meat is blackened on the outside but well cooked inside. We give him a round of applause, then quickly stop, remembering where we are."

TMR Okay yes, body stuff should definitely be talked about. But in this context, no can do pal.

It's not so uncommon, I'm sure. In the entire range of inclination and idiosyncrasies, it's actually rather tame.

We all have our limits :)

Yes, very interesting. Apparently body hair removal is for her a dirty Capitol thing, and a major turn-off. Up there with colorful wigs and garish fashion. 🤷‍♂️

message 9: by Delaney (new)

Delaney imagine stroking someones leg and you just get a handful of hair...

Layla I'm sure the people of district 12 just have no desire/need/money/time to do hair removal, especially consistently, so it's probably not a social norm. Where as ,in the capital people are so obsessed with their looks, that it's probably odd to Katniss lol.

Linda ~ they got the mustard out! ~ Delaney wrote: "imagine stroking someones leg and you just get a handful of hair..."

Since most guys don't shave their legs, it's probably not hard to imagine for a lot of people. 😂

Jayson Delaney wrote: "imagine stroking someones leg and you just get a handful of hair..."

Yeah, a "handful" and you're deep into fur territory :)

Jayson Layla wrote: "I'm sure the people of district 12 just have no desire/need/money/time to do hair removal, especially consistently, so it's probably not a social norm. Where as ,in the capital people are so obsess..."

Yes, I think that's exactly how it is. Especially if you consider living in District 12 akin to living in a kind of Victorian country squalor. There's no plumbing or automobiles or electricity (except for the border fence). And leg shaving wasn't a thing until the mid-20th century when skirts got short enough to show leg.

Still, I'd say that a "handful" would be a shock. I doubt I'd be able to grab a handful of hair from a dog's leg. Perhaps enough to grab with fingertips would be more realistic Lol

aarja Totally unrelated, but I can't help but see how forced Katniss is to act like that in the gif. As if she is a girl, acting like a typical girl with a nice boyfriend but there is so much more to it.

Jayson Aarja wrote: "Totally unrelated, but I can't help but see how forced Katniss is to act like that in the gif. As if she is a girl, acting like a typical girl with a nice boyfriend but there is so much more to it."

Yeah, really she shouldn't be that good at acting. At least in the book, she goes on and on about how she doesn't know how to act and how much she relies on Peeta to do the heavy lifting. I'd personally prefer a bit more hesitation on her part, but it does contrast well with how the interview ends and now not-a-couple they are.

Hope you've recovered. Lol Never had anyone choke before. That's a new favorite reaction of mine... I'd rank it above laughing out loud, but slightly below prolonged giggle fit :)

Katherine I couldn't agree more. 😂

Virginia Ronan ♥ Herondale ♥ Hahaha! It's early morning here and I almost choked on my coffee. *lol* Guess for people who are used to have it the Capitol ways seem to be weird?! XD

Jayson Katherine wrote: "I couldn't agree more. 😂"

Happy wife, happy life. If they're arranged to wed, Peeta's got to get on board with the body hair love, it seems non-negotiable 😁👍

Jayson Virginia Ronan wrote: "Hahaha! It's early morning here and I almost choked on my coffee. *lol* Guess for people who are used to have it the Capitol ways seem to be weird?! XD"

Drinks-related reactions to things I post are always my favorites. 😁👍

Also, yes, my feelings exactly about provincial views of the Capitol. I think in the modern day, the closest analogue we have are designer fashion shows, where clothing and fashion seem entirely theoretical, and totally weird if you saw it in person :)

Patricia No, but I like it. We don't talk about body hair a lot because some of girls or women are ashamed of it and hoping that their body hair will never grow again even though there's many benefits that we can get from them, but most of people shave them because they want to stay neat and clean anyway.... That's a funny review by the way 😁😁

Jayson Patricia wrote: "No, but I like it. We don't talk about body hair a lot because some of girls or women are ashamed of it and hoping that their body hair will never grow again even though there's many benefits that ..."

Depends on the culture. You can't turn on the TV in my neck of the woods without some commercial about body hair removal, or beauty products in general. I think that's the point with these quotes, that this sort of beautification is a luxury entirely foreign to the district.

Patricia Right! How did missed that? 😁

Jayson Patricia wrote: "Right! How did missed that? 😁"

Oh, it's not a matter of missing anything, just interpretation. I could very well be off the mark :)

Patricia Oh, you're not off the mark, that's a good observation. You're quite observant, thanks Jayson!

It's an audiobook. It's a passive reading experience, and so the effort I usually put into reading words is focused on picking things apart :)
