Notes:
(1) "Our full stomachs make us more uncomfortable and breathless than we were on the morning's climb. I begin to regret those last dozen oysters."
- "Last dozen"? How many dozens were there?
(2) "My shaking hands slide the wire from the hilt, wind it around the arrow just above the feathers, and secure it with a knot picked up in training."
- Know your knots, people!

Notes:
(1) "Twenty-four rolls from District 3 ... No one says it, but eight will divide up perfectly after the next death."
- Katniss may stink at science, but she's mastered death math.
(2) "I wish Haymitch would stop sending us that District 3 bread and get us some more of that District 4 stuff."
- Katniss Everdeen, bread critic.
- Katniss proving beggars can be choosers.

Notes:
(1) "It wasn't real, I tell myself. The same way the muttation wolves last year weren't really the dead tributes. It's just a sadistic trick of the Gamemakers."
- Finally! After nearly a whole book we get confirmation about it.
(2) "If only one of us can be a parent, anyone can see it should be Peeta."
- Well, obviously. Peeta's the better person for nearly anything.

Notes:
(1) "Wiress ... starts quietly singing some funny little song, about a mouse running up a clock. It must be for children, but it seems to make her happy."
- I guess "Hickory Dickory Dock" isn't very popular in District 12.
(2) "I go back to imagining killing the president."
- Seems like killing the president is Katniss' happy place. Well, whatever keeps her centered.

Notes:
(1) "The only thing that distracts me from my current situation is fantasizing about killing President Snow. Not very pretty daydreams for a seventeen-year-old girl, I guess, but very satisfying."
- Katniss sounding like a serial killer. Well, if there was ever a time.
(2) Peeta: "Well, it must be monkey hour."
- Monkey Hour sounds fun! Wait... right, murder monkeys.

Notes:
(1) "Poor Finnick. Is this the first time in your life you haven't looked pretty?"
- Katniss, even in the midst of death and danger, remembers to stay sassy.
(2) "A parachute lands next to us with a fresh loaf of bread ... I make a note to myself. Be friends with Finnick. You'll get food."
- Katniss, slowly learning that there are tangible benefits to making friends.

Notes:
(1) "I take the monkeys for a good sign."
- Monkeys are never a good sign!
(2) "The monkeys explode into a shrieking mass of orange fur."
- The shrieking seems like the worst part.
(3) "I bring down monkey after monkey, targeting eyes and hearts and throats, so that each hit means a death."
- Human-like they may be, Katniss apparently has zero issues killing monkeys.

Notes:
(1) "Our jumpsuits are no help at all. We may as well be dressed in tissue paper, for all the protection they give."
- Possibly that's the idea... to kill Tributes off quicker.
(2) "Now I'm so thankful I didn't kill Finnick, because how would I have gotten Peeta out of here alive? So thankful to have someone else on my side."
- Katniss learns the value of friendship.

Notes:
(1) "[Peeta] takes a cube of rodent meat, skewers it on the tip of a pointed stick, and lets it fall into the force field. There's a sharp sizzle and the stick flies back. The chunk of meat is blackened on the outside but well cooked inside. We give him a round of applause, then quickly stop, remembering where we are."
- The Hunger Games is not a cooking competition!

Notes:
(1) "I'm stopped by the sight of Finnick kissing Peeta. And it's so bizarre, even for Finnick .... No, he's not kissing him ... he's blowing air into his lungs."
- Whew! For a split second you'd almost get the sense she was jealous.
(2) "Like everything here, the water's on the warm side, but this is no time to be picky."
- Katniss Everdeen, food water critic.
