One: The architecture thing comes off a bit like author indulging a personal interest, but is not as in depth as one would expect of such. Aaronovitch handles this much better.

Two: The arcana "aspect" thing reminds me of Zelazny's Lord of Light. Invoking a comparison to Zelazny is extremely unwise. The comparison will not be favorable for you.

ffs, go read some edgar rice burroughs. learn to write a fight scene.

So far the best thing about this is the cover... :/
