I'm enjoying it! It's my best friend's very favorite series and so I'm really hoping I love it too. XD It's definitely fun (and kind of relaxing and refreshing, honestly.)

I might not continue reading the full series depending on how they sequels are content-wise and if they start introducing things I'm not comfortable reading. I've glanced over reviews by some of my trusted GR friends of the later books in the series, (trying not to read spoilers), and don't know if they'll be "my thing." But as of right now I'm looking forward to reading book #2. :)

Ah, yep. Makes sense. I don't like what I've heard about the prevalence of middle school crushes in this series... ;) And I'm sure there's magic. It's okay to stop reading if you suspect yo uwon't enjoy the rest as much. But I'm glad you can read and like the first few just to know what they're like!

Yes, there is magic, and so far I'm okay with how it's portrayed. (If that at any point becomes questionable I won't be continuing with the series because that's important to me.) And it was because of those crushes you mentioned that I didn't give these to my younger brother to read. I don't want him to think that it should be the norm and have him ruin friendships he has with girls his age just because of the influence of this book.

It's refreshing to hear you confirm my firm opinion, Karis! Thank you! :) But I'm glad you read them with him! That was worth it. :))) So special!! My brother has read the whole series. I ADORE the first movie, though! And thankfully I've mostly forgotten the book I did read, and I don't associate it with the movie anymore! All I remember is that the book was less cool and WAY more crude. Blech.
I'm glad you're paying attention to what you're okay with and are willing to act on it! :) Heeeeeeeeeeeeee, yes. ;) My brother read them a couple of years ago as a younger teen, and I was a little horrified when I found out about the extent of the crushes in the book! I'd be fine with him reading it now, but then it was a little iffy. YES YES YES EXACTLYYYYYYYYYYY. (You made me so passionate I forwent puncutation.) I am consciously staying away from all books with crushes for my little sister. She's still in upper elementary school, and I definitely won't give her any of that kind of book until she's 12. Modern middle grade fiction is so immature in the way it's handled, too. :PPP I can't believe adults write this stuff for kids. If those thoughts haven't crossed my siblings' minds, I will NOT give them a book that will make them think about it. Or think in a certain way about it, even if they know about crushes - and I don't think my little sister even knows about that yet! Definitely want to keep her mind pure and innocent as long as possible. ;) (I didn't find out about crushes till I was 9 or 10, and I'm glad. And I'm so glad my family never encouraged crushes. My siblings and I haven't really had them, or at least not any of note. I don't think it's natural to go so crazy about the other gender in the way that so many people do, even if hormones are hard to deal with.) That was a long rant, but it's a topic that's important to me!

Just if he isn't thinking that way, why put those thoughts in his head?
