Dorothy has no idea that water would melt the witch like brown sugar and she is frightened at watching the woman melt away. Dorothy runs to the lkoion and tells him that they are free.

Sjhe watches Dorothy carefully to see if she takes her shoes off but she never does except at night or when bathing. She is too afraid of water to steal her shoes then. The witch puts an invisible iron bar in the kitchen and the girl trips. The witch snatches one shoe and puts it on her foot. Dorothy asks for it back. The witch refuses. Dorothy is so angry she throws a bucket of water on her. We know what happens.

Every night Dorothy brought food to the lion and she and Toto sleep with him every night and plot their escape. It is hard because the yellow winkie guards are stationed everywhere. The witch often threatens to beat her with an umbrella and she is afraid because she doesn’t know the power of the kiss. Toto bit the witch once and the witch has no blood. There is only one thing she fears: water.

She looks in Dorothy’s eyes and realizes the girl is innocent aand knows nothing of the shoes’ power. She decides to make her a slave and find a way to steal her shoes. She puts Doprothy to work in the kitchen. Dorothy works hard for she is glad that Dorothy and Toto are allowed to live. The witch tries to harness the lion but he is too wild. She puts him in a cage and tells him that he will not eat until he obeys.

They wrap ropes around the lion until he couldn’t move. They carry him to the witch. The leader of the monkeys sees the kiss on Dorothy’s forehead and he tells all that she is untouchable. They gently lift her up and drop her off at the witch’s doorstep. They tell the witch she has no power over them. They fly away. The kiss surprises the witch and she is terrified to see the silver shoes with their powerful charm.

She puts the golden cap on her head and says a ridiculous spell. Suddenly winged monkeys fill the skies and the largest one reminds the witch it is the third time and asks her will. She says to capture the lion which she wants to harness and enslave and kill the others. They carry off the tinman and drop him on rocks. They take apart the scarecrow and throw his clothes on the top of the tree.

She gave the winkies spears to destroy the group. They are obedient, but not brave. The lion roared at them; they ran back to the castle. She beat them and sent them back to work. The witch has lost all her assets and has only one left: the golden cap. A person can only use it three times to call forth the winged monkeys to do her will. She used it to enslave the winkies and to run the wizard out of her land.

First, she lost her wolves (ahem, Jadis) and now she’s lost her crows. She blows on her silver whistle and a swarm of black bees show up. She sends them to the group. Scarecrow says to cover Dorothy, Toto, and the lion with the straw. The only thing to sting is the tinman and one bee after another breaks its stinger on him and they die. Her only choice now is to tie up the lion and enslave the others.

When the crow arrives, the scarecrow scares many of them, but the king is skeptical and said he would peck out his eyes. The scarecrow caught it and twisted its neck. Every time one comes at him he catches it and twists its neck. Guess how many crows he killed. Forty!!! All of his friend stayed on the ground with their faces turned down to avoid getting their eyes pecked. Again, the wicked witch is furious.

The scarecrow and tinman are wide awake, the latter stands poised to lop off heads. He ends up killing 40 wolves (he can’t even help himself from Biblical numbers). It’s amazing that Dorothy did not wake up and, in the morning, she thanks the tinman and scarecrow for saving her. The witch sees what happened to her wolves and she loses her mind. She blows her silver whistle and a flock of crows darkens the sky.
