I wasn't actually prepared for this level of clarity, eloquence and straightforwardness from a boy scared for his life, turned philosospher and then emperor some 1700 years ago. The way the future to be emperor describes all his dialogues and adds his own critical notes (why he said what he said) with friends ans foes , philosophers , students , enunucs and army generals is nothing short of impressive.

"Middle-East is the most penetrated political sub-system in today's world. It is neither absorbed by the outside challenger nor later released from the outsider's smothering embrace. A penetrated system exists in continous confrontation with a dominant outside political system"

Genius ! If you look at Iraq , Syria , Caucasus its exactly like this : Iran , Turkey , Russia etc continously meddling with internal affairs

While Georgia hoppes on the EU/US bandwagon due to russian threat , Armenia inversely went all in with Russia against Azeri and Turkish threat to its existence , Azerbaijan kept a more styled evenhanded approach with all actors (Iran,Turkey,EU,US, Russia) and on the side become the main muslim economic partner of Israel having contracts of no less then 40 billion usd ,sending oil for weapon systems.

Funny how as Erdogan uses the ethno-nationalistic narrative to keep the grip on the power chanting "we wuz Ottomans, we are turks , its us vs them (kurds, armenians, syrians) the same way president Petrosian of Armenia and Alyiev of Armenia prolong the conflict of Nagorni-Karabach indefinitely.
Must be really scary to better put your people through war and poverty then to cede power.

Little did i know Christianity copied so much from all other local monotheistic or pagan religions of the empire's provinces just to seem more appealing.
Even core customs like sharing the wine and bread of the Savior is copied from the Cult of the Persan Warrior Mithras or the term of apostoles/fathers is taken from the cult of Zarathustra.

Christianty is the reunion of an entire batch of religions.

The level of lucidity of the young Julian , future to be emperor is outstanding.
Best part is seeing from his own eyes, a boy's eyes, the most important cities of IV century AD , the likes of Constantinopole , Antioch , Nicomedia

Iulian despre Constantin (Cel Mare):

"N-a fost niciodata un adevarat crestin.
A fol crestinismul pt a isi extinde dominatia asupra lumii. A fost un soldat profesionist, prost crescut , neinteresat de filosofie, desi avea un gust pervers pentru disputele doctrinare care ii produceau o satisfactie enorma." Certurile nebunesti ale episcopilor il fascinau.

What a fkin giant collusion:
Columbia overnment , army , police , US gov and US corporations fund paramilitaries that kill rape , imprison rural columbians in order to demonize FARC and frame them, so that it woulld weaken the guerilla and stop interfering with them exploiting the country's natural resources.
The columbian state is the biggest human rights violator for decades !

Assad's barrel bombings and chemical weapons usage in Syria seem a child's play compared to the sheer brutality and lawlessness that pervades in all structures of the Colombian gonverment.

For decades FARC has been literally negotiating and enforcing coca prices with the cartels on behalf of the peasants producing the drug , ensuring their wellbeing , and taking a comission in order to fund their paramilitaries against the Colombian gonverment represented by the rich elites.
Starting with the late 90's FARC began widespread offensive against military bases which made the US send assets to help the gov

Hyunday founder Chung Ju Yung's routine:

Chung was a driven man , getting up at 4AM to exercise , hold meetings and call managers before having breakfast at 6AM, at which he held court over his family. He was also autocratic and known on occasion to slap or punch his managers. Chung had a hobby for having multiple mistresses but most prototypical of all he had the ability to know where money was going to be made.

What China Japan and Taiwan got right after the war was that agriculture ia the engine of everything. So they confiscated the land of everyone owning more than 3 acres and redistributed it to the general people. Now you get people incetivized to work hard in their "gardens", with low entry to credit for development of agriculture. Agricultural output increases , food gets cheaper , industry starts swallowing workers.

Its quite funny how at first Iraqis would drop chemical weapons with great care and stealthiness not to bring the wrath the UN, while by 1985 every single offensive was started with salves of Mustard,VX, and Nerve gas over iranian positions and also their own Kuridsh minority. By this time all Iraqis had chemical protective gear and would deliver the toxic agents like candies to their foes.

In 1984 to repel the Iranian offensive in a marsh area, Saddam uses effectively Tabun nerve gas and mustard gas. Thousands of Iranians drown and suffocate in the boggy area.
I guess this would serve as a test case , a precedent for the gas attacks Saddam will be using in the following years against the Iraqi Kurdish minority around the city of Sulaymaniah.

In 1981 the Iranians launched a 1200km fighter bomber squadron from Hamedan via Turkey border, resupplying over Syria (Deir Ez Zor) to then proceed to south west Iraq and destroy H3 airbase (some 60 aircrafts)
In a greater feat , the same year israeli using Iranian info launched a 2000 km aircraft bomber raid (with no resupplying) and destroyed Iraqi's nuclear plant of Osirak months before becoming operational

France sides with Iraq , Europe double deals with both (Italians fuck up with both) , Maghreb countries besides Libya side with Saddam for various reasons (Algeria backs Iran), Gulf morachies with no choice also back Saddam. Jordan backs Saddam and gets rich off deals especially highways (Aqaba port flourishes).
Syria backs Iran , Iran gets to deploy hundreds of Pasadaran (IRGC) to Lebanon , hence Hezbollah is formed

So far so good. Its awesome that this book focuses on aspects neglected by martial arts instructors or self defence guru's : the legal implication when you decide to go from observant to assaultive towards some dude that is threatening your life. The legal system is against you ,95% of self defenders get ail time while being in the right. Take care of what you write on social media , coz' it will come back to you.

I'm starting to think this War is probably the most complex geopolitical subject i have ever faced, and i am already having a tough time to wrap my head around all the players involved and their ever changing allegiances.

P.S Besides US and Russia shifting allegiances enter France , China , Gulf States and Hafez al Assad's Syria.
Pressing on , totally worth it ao far.

Damn, US middle eastern politics were truly trash tier in the 80's.Instead of allying and granting help to the one power able to oppose the rise of Khomeini's Iran....

Saddam Hussein was deemed "a Mafioso dictator who was impossible to manipulate and nobody trusted".His hostility toward Israel and his nuclear program totally discredited him in the eyes of the US congress.
