Forty minutes into the audiobook and it's literally only him apologizing

Really good but I'm so summer-brained and this book is so long, that I'm like, can you be more obvious when you're tying it together bc I'm always a little lost rn

it's so good so far. The first chapter is just about how bad Pinker is. I love it

not to sound stupid, but like, why does this have to be so long?

I like Kierkegaard but the long chapter on him feels like a digression. Just about every survey on existentialism seems obligated to include him and, I'll just say my controversial opinion: I don't get it.

Sure, he centered the observer as subject, which is central to existentialism. However, the French writers of the 1940s landed at a similar point only incidentally.

listening to the audiobook and forgot how deeply annoying the Wookie parts are. Just read it, don't do the voice.

I've read this before obviously. But this time I'm listening to the audiobook, which is wonderful because it's read by Townshend himself.

There have been a couple times where he appears to chuckle at the grandiosity of his own writing.

I was getting a green pepper from the fridge just as Leia was betrayed. A magnet....a Princess Leia magnet...my wife had on the fridge crashed to the floor and broke at just the right moment.

I was rereading this back in 2019 (to prepare for my relocation to the desert), but stopped in the mess of moving/covid etc.

Anyway I started over again last week and I just love this histrionic, goofy book so much.

The transition from describing his preoccupation with his penis to describing his preoccupation with being preoccupied by his penis to the nature of beauty is truly stunning. Once in a lifetime stuff.

chapter six was beautiful. when he perceived the day as wonderful but for his wife it was terrible. really heartbreaking.

Was listening while driving and it's so good but we had to stop because my wife was grossed out by the po*p story.
I'll probably pick up with the audio when I get back home.

I read a book (chapter) aloud every night. We tried the same schedule last year but we failed because it began to feel like homework. An hour or so of reading + you've got to keep straight these characters and nations, each of which has four names.
This time I have a "sensitive to modern ears" translation. Trying to finish January 24.
