Sweet mother of manic pixie dream girl wonderland. Seems TJR only writes about “it girls,” because I’m seeing double between Evelyn Hugo and Daisy Jones. Everyone’s obsessed with them, they’re so gorgeous, with the hottest bodies, but it’s okay because it’s balanced by the fact that they’re *checks notes* actually hurting inside really bad.

I’m still waiting for it to get good…

4 chapters in and it’s already so unhinged - I love it

Also, medically speaking, 6 hours of intubation does jack-all if Grace truly suffered from inhalational burn injury lol

Ok, some scientific discrepancies:
1. Linguistic: Eridian shouldn’t have a word for ‘Blip-A’ (since it’s just ‘ship’). When Grace asks the ship’s name, Rocky’s answer doesn’t make sense.
2. Linguistic: there’s no need to use the Eridian word for ‘mark’ instead of ‘period’
3. Math: counting in base-6 doesn’t just round our nearest base-10 decimal to 6! B10 80 rounds up to 84 (B6 220).

Is there anything better than linguistics and science fiction? Every chapter with Rocky is simply delightful.

Bent Twig: 2/5. There was really nothing special about this. But then again it wasn't awful either.

The Inn of the Seven Blessings: 4/5. First of all, I just realized how relevant the title is - pretty cool. There were a few awkward phrasings, and the ending was the tiniest bit too cliche, but the story itself was excellent. Well-paced, with good writing.

Now Showing: 2/5. Pretty meh. Overdid it with the pointless movie reviews interspersed and repetition of "scoundrel-no-wait-slimewad, slimewad-no-wait-scoundrel." The plot was only okay, and the ending rescued it just a little.

How the Marquis Got His Coat Back: 5/5. I wasn't a Neil Gaiman fan at all before this, but I adored this work. Such an interesting world & its characters as well! In a cheesy way, I also enjoyed the classic short story format where every loose strand was tied into a perfect knot.

The Curious Affair of the Dead Wives: 3/5. A little hard to get into in the beginning, but it starts getting interesting about halfway through. I especially enjoyed the vague ending.

What Do You Do?: 3/5 Love the classic Gillian Flynn twist. Not the most compelling storyline, but an easy, interesting read. The only negative was the (not spoiler) flat and stereotypical smarter-than-you-and-entertained-by-everything psychopath character.

Tough Times All Over: 1/5. Just awful. No plot, a tiring predictable format, and no payoff in the end. I'm left wondering how to get the last 20m of my life back.

1/5 - We are off to an awful start...flat writing, cliche scenes, and that awkward white-red-black setup.

Side note: loving the tidbits on the Eldren every few sub-chapters! I'm hoping for some Sanderson-esque worldbuilding to come!

This has gotten me completely hooked. The pacing is just right, and allows the reader to relish each morsel of information being given out. The characters are dynamic and compelling, and each chapter shows off the Gentleman Bastards' delightful cleverness. My only issue is with Bondsmage sorcery; it's too OP. I really hope there's more to it later in the book, because it feels too unbalanced right now.
