The buddy/duo formula is working well for Lawrence I think. Works for me anyway.

A lot lighter tone than Broken Empire. The audio narration is very good - suits the tone of the book. The prose seems to flow a lot better than his previous books - better writing and/or better editing.

This is a really weird and interesting book. Who imagines this stuff? An imagination of concepts as well as other worlds. Some of the animals are cool too. I particularly like the "trunc" - an animal that tears itself in two if attacked. The brain and eyes and reproductive organs run one way to escape - while the other half has teeth and stays behind to attack and distract the predator so the first half can escape.

This hasn't turned out to be the story I was expecting it to be. The plot is a bit all over the place but I can't help but be hypnotized into following the carrot McCammon is dangling in front of me. Must be what they call "animal magnetism."

I really want to know what's at the end of this rabbit chase now. It better not be a rabbit.

Two possible bad guys emerging - with a possible body count of one. Things might be looking up depending on if these really are bad guys and if they actually managed to kill someone.

Brother and Sister following a trail of clues across the solar system left by their recently deceased Grandma. WHY!?!?
Very little dramatic tension so far. It's still interesting enough - it just isn't why I read Reynolds.

Atmosphere, tension, sinister undertones - all the stuff I look for in a good horror novel but in historical fiction instead. This guy used to write horror in the 80s and 90s - might be worth checking out.

I'm really enjoying the prose. It's probably too early to call it but at the moment I'm putting Robert McCammon up there with Patrick Rothfuss and Guy Gavriel Kay as authors who I could read/listen too all day just for the prose - and if there's a plot in there, well that's a bonus.

Ahhhhhh....the prose is enticing and the audio narration by Eduardo Ballerini is delectable. Even the name, "Eduardo," melts in the mouth like a Ferrero crumbling on my tongue....Bunny Creed is asleep at last.

The audio narration by Christian Rummel is pretty bland. I don't remember the sample sounding bad. But it's making the bland dialogue sound worse I think. I'm just going to see how this Mexican Standoff in space resolves a bit further. If things don't improve over the next half hour I'm sending in the Bunny and HMS Dauntless is going to get sunk by a broadside from HMS Ruthless.
