Arthur Sackler is an object lesson: are you sure your grand legacy, your influence and your name on buildings after you're long gone, isn't actually paving the way for destruction?

The question isn't if Mr. Rothfuss is smarter than I am, it's how often in 660 pages he feels the need to prove it

A sadistic and opportunistic work of exploitation, American War will make its writer a lot of money.

This novel barely exists except to move its characters from one atrocity to another.

In the spirit of On The Beach and The Road- what better way to commemorate this election than a dystopic imagined future war-torn America after environmental apocalypse and sectarian terrorism! Happy Holidays to me!

"The arts train our imagination toward restoration work and reconciliation, but the arts can also cause us to lose hope; we can become persuaded that the only path is to live trapped within despair." And that is a pretty apt description of culture in the west right now.

Michael's timeline has some gaffes in it, and I'm not sure if they're intentional (in other sections he's unreliable, hilariously). First, he mentions someone wearing a G&R t-shirt well before they would have been appearing. next, watching Simpsons reruns several years before the show was syndicated.

This is the book A Little Life wanted to be.

The missing letters (which appear on the back) in the title spell N O

ultimately only Michael's narration is credible but I'll allow it. for nw.

The diction is a bit of a problem. Too much of the voice is ornate, like it's got posterity in mind.
