I read the Allbright Academy book first, which follows the same characters as this one. That book described Zoë as a real leader, someone with POTUS potential. But this book paints her as someone who gets along with everyone but it also a serious follower rather than a leader—imagine I would have enjoyed Allbright less if I’d met Zoë in this book beforehand.

I’m supposed to believe all the headmistress’s files fit on a single 4G flash drive?

Not spectacular so far, but I’m interested to see where it goes.

I believe this is one of two original Goosebumps I’ve never read before. I’ve heard it’s a bad one, but we’ll see.

Good so far. Big fan of Elfangor’s voice. This is where I remember becoming less interested last read through, though, so I fear it’ll be a struggle to finish it before Taglit book club tomorrow afternoon.

I remember not liking this one, so we’ll see how I feel this time around.

Did this book seriously spend 25% of its page count on the boy seeing a girl outside a house and playing a video game? No wonder its ratings are so low; there are only a hundred pages left for the actual story.

Changed my mind: dad is the beast and the brother is too. First transformation is around puberty so Judy is next.

Getting a little more interesting. I don’t think I like this rabbi very much—feels like the author is trying a little too hard with him somehow.

This is spending a lot of time on characters I don’t care about; normally I like mysteries to stay with the detective the whole time. I’ve seen so little of Rabbi Small that I’m not even sure if I like him yet.

Conservative rabbi, appears to be a Conservative congregation—I don’t know any Reform ones that do weekday minyanim with tefillin, anyway—but they’re calling it a temple? Interesting; I’ve never seen that before.

Chapter two reinforcing that I’m a real dummy when it comes to science.

I like this book a lot but man oh man is it ever a product of its time. Qwilleran just called a woman in a wheelchair “the invalid.”

Ideally this will be very useful for my own writing—for someone who writes a story as violent as mine is, I really struggle to describe physical pain well.

This book is really great. Super informative but still easy to follow and answering questions I wouldn’t have even thought to ask. Love reading the Orthodox perspective, too, since I don’t get much exposure to that IRL.
