I am shocked at how frankly this is discussing Davy and Altschuler kissing and how well the dad is handling. Super impressive, especially in 1969. But I think Fred will get hit by a car.

I feel so bad for this poor kid. Also was not expecting a discussion on how Sephardic Jews have been in America for centuries, but I appreciate it.

The voice of the main character really reminds me Good Times/Bad Times by James Kirkwood. Makes perfect sense, as they’re both gay books written for teenagers in the late ‘60s.

A gay boarding school book with a presumably Jewish protagonist—I’m amazed this one has slipped by me for so long. The writing isn’t great so far, and I’m not very into YA these days, but I gotta give this a fair shot. The premise, though—this kid’s going to a boys’ school and is going to waste it by pretending to be straight? We’ll see how this goes.

Of course the Jewish man is a spy, gotta love old-school antisemitism—but I knew what I was getting into wit Christie. On the bright side, I called that moment where Lawrence ducked back into the pharmacy as being important!

Called it back at 12%: of course Hastings is blaming the Jew.

I’ve suspected for a while, but I’m pretty sure the murderer is John Cavendish, and Mary is helping him cover it up. Perhaps both brothers working together—Lawrence had an opportunity to get ahold on sleeping pills in the pharmacy, so they could have drugged Cynthia next door to ensure she didn’t wake up for the seizures.

This Watson-type narrator is so stupid. He’s operating on assumptions instead of taking the facts plainly.

Trying very hard to solve the mystery before Poirot reveals it—I’m getting pretty good at picking up clues lately; here’s hoping I can put them together.

Of course Hastings immediately dislikes a man named Bauerstein.

You know when you learn about a serial killer’s life and his childhood was just his mother treating him like garbage only because he was a boy, and that turned him into a violent misogynist? And while you obviously don’t agree with murder you’re like “yeah that makes sense for him”? That’s this main character.

There’s actually some really good character stuff in this one, which is redeeming it from the lackluster plot.

Not a fan of the first two Megamorphs books, but I gotta power through for book club.
