I knew this was a book about a kid convincing his parents to send him to camp, but if I’d know it was going to pivot to the camp itself, I’d have saved it to read outside, not when it’s 30 degrees out.

I've been putting this off for so long because it takes me ages to get through academic books even when I like them, but to my surprise, this isn't academic at all—we're talking an eighth-grade reading level. Which is good for accessibility, but TBH I was hoping for more background: for example, explain how the government functions, that the Shah can just revoke the PM's status.

This has been on my to-read for years, and of course if I don’t get around to it now, I’m being irresponsible. The preface is from 2008, but I’d have believed you if you told me it was written last week.

This is cute; it’s cool to see how a regular old Jewish family would have lived back in the ‘60s (pot roast with cheesecake for dessert surprised me). Also I like the language in older books like this.

Tried to read this a couple years ago but wasn’t feeling it. But now a friend, a coworker, and my BF are all reading it, so I figured I might as well join in.

TBH this is boring, but the chapters are short so it’s going by quickly enough, I suppose. It won the Hugo and Nebula so I’ll finish it, but my hopes are not currently high.

I know based on the premise that they're going to build the space elevator, but even just Morgan measuring the sacred mountain for planning purposes irritated me. I'm probably too much an environmentalist for this.

Hunter is the most obnoxious narrator there is. I get being in high school fucking sucks, probably especially for a trans kid, but dude is the biggest pushover I’ve ever seen and doesn’t seem to appreciate some luck he’s had in his life. Dude needs to turn on some Morrisey and cut this shit out.
