Somehow I've managed to avoid reading this one, can I claim I was saving it?

He has basically just described every tale about knights+princesses ever, in just one paragraph.

Not liking this as much as the previous books. More musing on the human condition.

I like the simple style, solid world building in few words. I like that each book, as well as the series as a whole has themes running through it, fear of mortality, slavery, life as a dream, each crossing over but each also being focused on in each book separately

All were muscular, athletic, dark of skin. They moved gracefully, deftly, confident in their supernatural strength, like minor gods let loose upon the Earth. Their faces were beautiful; their golden eyes gleamed in the dimness of the gorge. ‘Don’t get too worked up,’ Bartimaeus said. ‘Most of them are idiots. '

After being beaten up several times: "Woe's me!" quoth Sancho; "should this happen to be another adventure of ghosts, as I fear it is, where shall I find ribs to endure it ? " - I love that
