Reluctantly resuming this political snooze-fest in the hopes that something fantastical will happen.

Even though the book began by introducing Regan, I thought the main character was going to be Heather, since she was the one that everything was happening to. Now it seems it's actually Regan who's the main character, and poor Heather was just a stepping stone to her character development, acting as a mirror to what Regan herself would become.

One of the worst audiobook narrations I've ever heard. Not just a complete lack of characterisation or variation in tone or emphasis, but also unedited and unprofessional. The narrator numerous times messes up or reads something wrong, re-reads it, and the mistake is left in. Or she doesn't bother to re-read it at all despite stumbling over a mistake and just moves on.
As for the story: Way too many 1st-person POVs.

AI would have narrated this audiobook better than the one they got. No big surprise.

Things got more interesting and enjoyable once Rowan and Michael got together.

“Explain, Rowan, explain in detail. You have to tell these boys what you’re doing. Gentlemen, behold, this is the only neurosurgeon in western civilization who does not like to talk about her work.”

Things are a bit better now that they're finally interacting with some islanders.
