This book is genuinely scary...

Her outfit whispered , I am rich, and this is appropriate summer attire, because this is as beachy as I’m willing to get.

Ruthie and Jem (teenaged daughter) rent out their house all summer in order to keep it. Adeline Clay is the new renter for the summer.

Summer was a forever season, and held no pain.

By the end of their first year on the island they were so thin that none of their original clothes fit. They now wore tattered loon cloths.

Sophie architect, dead husband eaten by sharks and her were on their honey moon. Barry Bleeker was a Wall Street type guy who had a full on panic attack at an art museum when he realized he was living an unfulfilled life. He had always wanted to be an artist and to see where his favorite artist lived and worked so he left him stable life to venture off.

They have a radio on the island so were able to hear what was going on in the world. 9/11 happened while they were there. I’ve gotta say, the island seems too good to be true. Food, water, shelter, a radio. Not bad. They worked together to search the island, build a shelter, and a latrine. Good thing they both have skills and that Sophie and Barry can both pull their weight.

Ok the book is going back and forth to on the island and off the island and I kind of like it now. It makes it more interesting than just your normal castaway story.

Kind of annoyed...I think they started the book with a spoiler. Don’t read any further to avoid hearing it....*Spoiler* The man with the scarred face visiting a grave in France with a bunch of bananas has to be Barry visiting Sophie right? So Sophie must have died on the island? If this turns out to be the case I will be thoroughly annoyed. I hate when books spoil the ending at the start.
