I am so annoyed! I took this book on a short road trip with my family and now I cannot find it anywhere! So frustrating.

It’s Iris, not Ruth and she is only 8 years old. She got left behind. Auggie has a daughter somewhere back in the world that he never wanted. Got a woman pregnant and moved to the other side of the world to avoid parenting. Funny how now he is left with a little girl in the outpost.

Auggie doesn’t want to leave because his work isn’t done. The military told him this is the last transport and he will be stuck there forever.

The researchers were evacuated from the arctic outpost a year ago because something catastrophic happened back in the real world. Auggie stayed behind with Ruth(?). My question is, why did Auggie not demand to know what happened? Is that left out just so the reader is unclear as to what happened so far? I would never not ask what happened in his shoes.

My life has been defined by the things I didn’t do. The things I didn’t say. I think it’s the same for a lot of people. What shapes us is not always our achievements but our omissions. Not lies; simply the truth we don’t tell.

I hate it when people ring the doorbell and use the knocker, implying that I must be incapable of hearing or that their need to enter is so urgent it requires a full frontal assault on the exterior of my property.

Crazy accident at the fair! Mr. Halloran was an albino. “Just a normal man with a medical condition. They were wrong. Mr. Halloran was many things, but normal was never one of them.”

Not a fan of the abrupt ending of Loaded. However...I was very glad this story ended without the details of another killing by Callaway. This story was brutal and too much for me to handle. Too much violence. I only finished it because it’s a short story and I needed to get through it to get to the next story.

Pleasantly surprised at this one so far. Unique spin on the post apocalyptic story but does has slight similarities to The Leftovers.
