The same holds true for this Important New Writer. Many suddenly recalled Epiphanic Events of his Life are here. Iimpeccably crafted stories!

I started this one a couple of weeks ago. Started quite sadly, but now the loose ends are starting to be tied up! Very nice novel. I will read more of her books.

The CLEAREST English Translation of one of the BEST Classics in the world!

What a simply marvellous fictional panorama of contemporary life in the Far East! A wonderful, heartfelt treat for idle moments. I am finding my old mind re-energized in its straightforward linear prose, as very clear memories of my own youthful passions and unconsidered decisions once again surface in my mind!

Its an adventurous book, cutting through my old-timer's doubts and hesitations. I highly recommend it!

Admiral Stockdale is the famed writer of Courage Under Fire (see my review), the story of how the Roman Stoic Epictetus got him through his excruciating interrogation and torture in Vietnam.
This book is the heartfelt story, written by his wife Sybil and himself, of how their marriage survived that horrific ordeal, and their life of recovery thereafter.

A third of this hilarious book behind me, I'm LAUGHING MY WAY THROUGH IT!

An old-fashioned masterpiece of subtlety and discretion! You can see Goethe's vast range of practical interests come to life in the accoutrements and activities to which an older couple gives their wholehearted love and attention.
All in all, an engrossing study of how a middle-aged couple's emotional attitudes bob and weave with the introduction to the scene of volatile houseguests, with penetrating psychology!

This by FAR my favourite English version of Virgil - bursting to the seams with Dryden’s notorious testosterone!

Not at all what you’d expect! A hard-nosed tough-as-nails book about aging, for which I’m very grateful. EXCELLENT.
