I always have a lot of trouble when a character has been made into kind of an ass, then in their own book, their voice doesn't really align, then I am supposed to understand that all the people in said character's life are basically toxic to them. I just can't get on board. Eric isn't a redeemable jackass, he just never 'settled' - from his POV. Yet nearly everyone is shitty to /i> him.
