i used to be so voracious with my reading and never thought that would end, and i find myself slowly slipping away from it, more and more :/ i don't know why. maybe it's harder for me to find books i love now? or maybe i just need to re-devote myself. anyway, it feels like i'm losing a part of myself.

this book is so harrowing, so painful, but the language is just spectacular. the combination of the two makes for a grotesquely lovely reading. i’m in awe.

i shall now try this again, after three months away and hopefully a better mindset for it. i do so wish to love you, la belle sauvage.

What I love about these books is that none - quite literally, zero - of the characters are without fault. Their flaws overwhelm their virtues, in fact, a lot of the time. It makes them so real.

i haven't read a page of this book for over a week now, and i'm putting it on hold to read oathbringer (which fingers crossed will arrive tomorrow!) and short stories.. i'm not sure how i feel about la belle sauvage in general, which is sad, because i expected to fall in love easily. it may change when i finish the rest of it.

This book is a lot of mental work and completely different from any of Cashore’s previous novels, but I am liking it quite a bit.

I think I'll be going through my friends list on here soon. I really need to see more updates from people who actually read the kinds of books I want to read. If anything changes, don't take it personally, really - I just want to find more books that interest me, ya feel?

This book just keeps getting better and better. Wow.

I might still be suffering a book hangover from Words of Radiance, but I don't know, I don't feel any emotion for this. I'm pretty detached from it all, even Lada, whom I loved in the last book. I think I'll take a break and reread The Subtle Knife instead.

Oh, how I love Lyra, the adventurous, proud, loyal little brat. I've known this world for years, and I'm revisiting it before La Belle Sauvage (The Book of Dust) releases. Reading my yellowed and warped 14-year-old copy is just bliss.

The writing style took quite a bit to get used to, but it's charming me more and more as I go along. Although the story is moving a little too quickly, the world is so rich and the characters intriguing. I'm really excited to see where it all goes.

Quite unlike anything I've ever read before. The language is gorgeous, and the story...is difficult. And I think it's headed in sadder directions.

I used to scoff at romance novels, thinking they couldn't really have any substance. How utterly stupid and pretentious. This is already so delightful and fun.

This is already working better for me than its predecessor, and a good 50% of that is Alucard Emery.

This is the fifth book set in the Napoleonic wars and the third "romance" (it's historical fiction but) set in Russia that I've read this year. I found my loves this year. Time to create some shelves...

Also, love how it's written like a more contemporary book of its setting. The dialogue especially.
