Yep, just got through the glossary. Next up: Dianetics in the 21st Century. 😬

This time he waited until page 30 to get to the abortion stuff!

I would be surprised if there are more than maybe five consecutive pages in Dianetics that don’t include one of L. Ron’s little abortion fantasies. This really is a book about imaginary at-home abortion attempts.

I think I’m through the actual original book now? Next up is “Dianetic Terms” followed by what appears to be 100+ pages of Scientology propaganda?

Important to remember that it’s fraudulent and morally abhorrent, yes, but also very badly written

Tedious in its repulsiveness, ludicrous in its claims and conclusions. Hateful. I continue reading only out of spite (toward myself, I guess?)

Seriously: Dianetics is 75% fantasy scenarios of at-home abortion. It’s abortions all the way down.

Oh, and Alexander the Great died young because his mother prayed wrong while pregnant.

Gross. Did Hubbard write Dianetics as an exercise, a challenge to himself to see how many degrading, contemptuously misogynistic little hypothetical scenarios he could fit into one book?

I can’t overstate how much Hubbard hated women, and mothers in particular. Every time I think it can’t get viler, Dianetics blows me away again. It’s exhausting to read.

Every chapter is uglier than the last. This one about “Preventive Dianetics” is particularly vile.

Real repulsive stuff here, calculated to make the reader distrust their own memories and perceptions and those of others—You say your parents beat you? No they didn’t. Someone swears her father raped her—no, silly, that’s just a keyed-in engram produced by her parents having sex nine days after she was conceived, duh.
Hideous.

Still largely incoherent but the parts that are easily understood are pretty monstrous.

Ha ha wow, okay, the truly vile homophobic garbage is on pages 125 and 126. Maybe there’s more later but pages 125 and 126: very bad!
