Wondering if I’m missing out, never having watched 19 Kids & Counting or Counting On. I feel like I went through a minor Duggars phase around the time their last daughter was born, maybe, but as I was never a superfan I definitely have some catching up to do.

To whom do I direct my irate letters of complaint that Frank Conniff states in Chapter Five that chimpanzees aren’t apes??

The glossary represents some very impressive padding. I love that “dials, drop as much as twenty (or five)” is defined on page 184 and “drop as much as twenty (or five) dials” is defined identically on page 185. On 189, “evolutionary” comes right before “evolution, theory of” which is defined...identically. Bold. Bold!

Finally through the ads and about to embark on a voyage through the glossary. I realized what the ads remind me of—marketing for TTRPG books and supplements. “You’re on an adventure! Here’s the map.”

I don’t know why it strikes me as so funny that a significant chunk of this volume is just ads for other Scientology books. (Each of which is apparently just the MOST superlative, the completist, most important, mind-blowing most-most EVER.)

So glad they define both “eyeshade, green” and “green eyeshade.”

I’m curious if earlier editions included this exhaustive glossary or if it’s a more recent insertion. Sure feels like padding, since virtually every word that appears in Dianetics gets a definition. If it’s relatively recent, I’m rolling my eyes extra hard at some of these definitions.

This seems to conclude the actual content of the book...the remaining ~90 pages appear to be appendices?

I think the final 20% of this edition might be...just glossary??

I’ve been earnestly trying to purge my vocabulary of casual ableism but I’m failing here—I don’t yet have a better way to say “this is dumb as hell.”
