"Speak the king's tongue, boy."

"Grim take the king!" the boy shouted. "It's not his forest!"

"Well, you'll have to take that up with him. He thinks it is, you know, and he's the king."

Dollars to donuts the author doesn't address any CIA misdeeds, either.

I wasn't expecting this to go so heavily into literal Holocaust atrocities. Major, major content warning.

This novel is good so far, BUT it is really irritating / depressing how the publisher assumed readers would need so many of the Jewish words to be specially defined in the glossary.

I mean, the book is called The Lost Shtetl. People probably know what they're picking up, nu?

"Yes, because I'm sure he would have told any random girl about his sisters after only three days." This line is sarcastic, but..... that's exactly what he did. This instalove is the worst.

Got through Part II, but this has to go back to the library before I can finish it right now. (Less time for reading / audiobooks with a new baby and visiting family around.)

This might be the most nuanced set of characters I've read since The Goblin Emperor. No real antagonists. Just people at conflict that stems from valid differences in outlook and priority, with warm empathy extended to all.

I think I would like The Silk Blade better if it wasn't so heavy on love-at-first-sight. Interesting worldbuilding concepts, but hard to get invested in the protagonist.

Also, why are we getting a Gemma Doyle story next? She's a straight white girl as far as I can remember; I don't understand how that fits this collection of genre under-representation.
