I'm pretty sure Joe Haldeman is Jewish himself, but having a character in the future tell his Jewish time-traveling protagonist that they don't have any Jews in her era is still painful.

The casual sexism is a lot.

I wasn't expecting quite so much of this to just be the guy's scientific process of figuring out how his invention works.

Haha, I forgot how Spook is basically Daredevil in this one. I love it.

See, he acknowledges the critique of this Indiana Jones approach/mindset, but then just.... sets it aside and goes on with more of the same.

Feels like this might be horribly colonialist, but we'll see.

This is... a lot of the rabbi explaining fairly basic Jewish things to other Jews so far. I'm having trouble suspending my disbelief they wouldn't know this stuff already.

Wait... your blood feud is based on a bombing and a note that implicates the other family? What are the odds that they were the target of something similar, and it's a third party setting you both up?

It is SO hard to take a minor character named Britta* seriously in a fantasy setting when I'm in the midst of rewatching Community right now.

This has been really predictable so far, but hopefully it's finally turning a corner.

I wish I could feel more invested in this F/F couple, but I just don't get what either of them sees in the other one.

Structurally it's maybe a little weird to only get the first chapter from Elend's POV this far in.

Just realized I've already read something from this author (and given it 2/5 stars, which is where this one feels like it's heading too). If I'd realized that's who it was, I probably wouldn't have even bothered. But I'm only a couple hours from finishing the audiobook at this point.

Super not feeling this, so I've increased the audiobook speed from my usual 2x to 2.5x to get through it sooner.

That sci-fi premise took a while to get here.

I'm not sure I like *any* of these narrators. Maybe the mom, but not her senile husband, druggie son, or creepy daughter.

It's so refreshing that Vin and Kelsier are never set up as love interests.

Mostly this just doesn't feel different enough from the prequel era. Maybe 200 years wasn't far enough back? I mean, these Jedi still know Yoda, for crying out loud.
