Miss du Maurier's Newtown boarding house is filling up in 1929. She rents out her father's old room to Billy, a drifter who notices the room for rent sign because he is taken by the figure of Lily, another boarder. Lily travels light, without a definite name and her pale hair has captured both Billy and Ari's attentions. Ari is a Jewish man with great admiration for Houdini, an interest that connects him and Lily.

The Richter family remnants come together. Justine comments that perry aka: Master Disaster is the one who knows their tremors and what the future will hold; he is their touchstone I guess. Last chapter Perry discusses the generous it's of people to earthquake victims, the rebuilding. "Things will get shaken up, broken into pieces, and we will need to put them back together the best way we can."

In the aftermath of actual earthquake and familial tremor, Justine is awake in hospital, Leonie has sustained injuries but refuses to be treated, answering Perry's call to come to the hospital. Justine knows Perry was only going to Fair Go for her sake, she accepts Leonie will be part of their life and Marc is her future. Is it time to rebuild.

"Is it possible that the happiest and saddest moment of your life can be one and the same?" Twins father. An actual earthquake hits the city. Justine trips from the shower trying to get to Perry and is unconscious. Perry has to adopt Jackie Chan mojo to get her to the hospital. He is ready. He is prepared.

Perry's fascination with earthquakes and his seismometer doesn't just involve tremors of the earth, but tremors on the fault lines of his family. I love the foreshadowing & the drops in of flashbacks fleshing out more of the past & how these fault lines will threaten the future, setting up for the narrative payoff. .

Long lost mother on scene, Perrys plan to push Justine into letting him go to Fair ago to live by leaving her at the market aka 'wandering off', seems to have worked. Really like Perrys narrative. Justin's boyfriend Marc, who home his promise to not have any contact whilst they were away Skypes to apologise to Perry for upsetting Justine thereby upsetting Perry.

Some stories must be told

Perry is mentally disabled and since their Mum left years ago and now their father is dead from cancer, Justine is taking Perry on a tenuous overseas trip to Vancouver where Perry may find a home that sets both h and his sister free. Justine has a patient caring boyfriend and is torn by what is the right thing to do.
