Not understanding why Harcourt is hiding her gender, but I'm thinking it was explained in the first book, His Majesty's Dragon. So far I like this book, even though not too much is really going on.. I hope something happens soon. And I hope Laurence stops calling Temeraire 'my dear'. It's getting annoying.

Of course the ebook version isn't on goodreads.. on chapter 3 already, p. 54/326. Definitely still liking the historical sci-fi genre, and also sincerely wishing dragons existed. Yes, I'm a nerd. I just want to meet Temeraire. Is that so weird?

I'm about ready to break out the Sparknotes... I'm having trouble keeping track of which characters are related to which other characters, and in what ways everyone is acquainted. Plus, Dumas keeps hopping between different plot lines.. I just wanna know what happens already!! This book is so much longer than necessary..
