On page 156, Goldstien's book talks about "The Machine". I think that he is referring to a computer because he is using it in context to Big Brother limiting technologies that would make the lives of the proles and members of the party easier and perhaps gain intelligence. He also talks about this machine eliminating the need for "human drudgery".

On page 44, when Winston ate his lunch, he and everyone else were forced to take a pill before they eat. The party can't just be randomly making them take this pill, so the pill either makes the food bearable and the food is used for brain damage and mind control, or the pill itself is used for mind control.

On page 82 of Huckleberry Finn, I noticed that Jim and Huck are very superstitious. This is demonstrated throughout the whole snakeskin and snake ordeal, where a snake bit Jim, and prior to that Huck had touched a snakeskin with his bare hands. It is quite odd that they are so superstitious, and I think it is because of their misfortune. They're trying to find an excuse for all the bad things that happen to them.

On page 150, I inferred that Athena really likes the Greeks because she went against orders from Zeus and decided to send them help a d risk being punished for all eternity. However, I do not think she will be punished because there are almost definitely people helping the Trojans. Besides, she is Zeus' daughter; he never seems to punish her.

While people are putting everything they have into the war, the gods treat the war like entertainment. On 86, Athena causally told Diomed to, "Drive straight at Ares (a god)." Ares had promised to "Help the Argives (Greeks) and attack the Trojans,"(86) but is now fighting alongside the Trojans. This sudden change in stances shows that the gods do not take the mortals' problems very seriously.

I really hate how both the Trojans and the Greeks treat Helen in this book. They do not respect her wishes at all and treat her like a piece of merchandise.

I just started The Iliad and I really like it. Agamemnon is very greedy, power-hungry, and a true tyrant. He has really gotten himself into a mess by not releasing the Priest's daughter. He has started a war, and it is all to blame for his greed and selfishness. On the other hand, Achilles wants out of the war right away.

In my book, the Bishop and Father Joseph just discussed the building of the Cathedral on the yellow hill. This is signification because the yellow hill is the only yellow hill in a field of green hills. This symbolizes the uniqueness of their parish- it is the only place of order in a vast expanse of wilderness- a safe haven for those pushed out of the lands that are all yellow.

I really liked how the author made it so that Father Martinez, Bishop Latour's nemesis in the beginning came back and caused an uprising that ultimately, even after being excised, only the death of him and his sidekick could calm. Not to fear, Bishop Latour has a new nemesis. He was just introduced. He is a Mexican who does not like that Bishop Latour doesn't prosecute Indians and Americans.

I think the Bishop is starting to realize that even though most of the churches in New Mexico are corrupt, and the people are greedy, some are good. I think the fact that the people who live far out in the desert, on the mesa are good is symbolic of Jesus' 40 days and 40 nights in the desert. Perhaps it is a state of isolation that keeps us from corruption; it certainly seem like a common theme

I predict that this flood is finally going to fix the bad habits of Auleranio Segundo and Meme. I think they will finally realize that their frivolous habits are killing them, and the former prominence of the family will be restored.

In this passage, the government cracks down on all the strikers and kills them, only leaving Arcadio Segundo behind. They deny it, saying they sent them back to their real families, and in saying that, they meant that they killed them and sent them to either heaven or hell.

Fernanda reminds me a lot of Ursula in the sense that she looks after her family and is very concerned about them. I wonder if the extremely restrictive Fernanda will finally rid the family of it's laziness and restore it's prominence as the honorable founders of Macando.

I predict that Father Latour will be murdered by Bishop Durango because the title of the book is Death Comes for the Archbishop, and the priests in Santa Fe refused to allow him the right to be bishop.
