I have a toothache when listening to this section about experiencing joy when you notice you are not in pain from a toothache :/

The author has a whole section on being careless when he really means carefree... :/

Listening to a rural tribe do daily work, gripe at each other, run away from various horrors, invent the wheel, and learn about barrels and saws just isn't that exciting to me. If I were reading the book it would be easy to skim but the audiobook only goes so fast. We'll see where this goes.

Oh come on, Thia. Leaving the ball when you know what's at stake, not being cautious about where you're seen going in the city, showing off your old riding leathers is all so stupid. Teenagers are smarter than this. Rizel probably knows exactly what's going on from her spy girl in the bakery (was it just coincidence the girl started working there when you started going every day?)

This is growing on me, but I can't help but think it is one of those stories that makes teenagers seem unfairly unintelligent, self-centered, and lacking in emotional control. I know this just the way YA novels go, but even as a teenager I was exasperated by these representations. I wonder how much the audiobook is coloring my perception - the Russian-style accents are a bit odd.
Anyway, we'll see where it goes.

The story felt scattered to me. Surly this would have changed if I'd kept going, but I listened to 2.5 hours of the audiobook and decided that was sufficient for me.
