I usually love the grumpy/sunshine dynamic, but it's grating on me a bit here. I feel like Frankie's not much of a grump and Ren is overly sunshine to compensate. is it a valid criticism to say Ren is too likable?

They also practically love each other from the jump, so I'm kind of here just like... what's the point of this whole book then?

you thought you came for the mystery, which is true enough, but really it's the characters who make this series shine. Their wit is truly unparalleled

this is so insightful and lovely to hear in gorman's own voice through the audiobook narration

this book is making me panicky and anxious and sad and that's great because that's what it's trying to do but it is a deeply unsatisfying and uncomfortable reading experience. objectively i know i should be praising austin for getting so thoroughly into gilda's head but again... that feeling just weighs down on you so much

this is a great book so far. the way that willa is simultaneously repulsed and compelled toward the family she nannys for is riveting. i'm glad i decided to borrow this in ebook form despite my reservations about the format, loving it so far.

also wtf kind of name is bijou lol. i mean makes perfect sense for the themes of the book but i genuinely feel sorry for that child.

i think i literally got so embarrassed by something ali said that i haven't picked this book up in like 4 months. i love ali but sometimes it is rough reading him ngl. i think i'm officially dnfing this for now, but i will DEFINITELY come back to it, most likely i'll finish the series. i just don't have time for it right now unfortunately

don't know if i'm in the mood for this right now... it seems really well written and all, but this is definitely a story that you have to really understand and sit with in order to reap all the things the author wants you to

so far this is really cute. not really sure if i'm getting a good sense of our love interest yet though. it seems like he has some pretty standard/basic love interest qualities but i'm interested to see if these will be expanded upon as the book goes on

this is a very interesting writing style i was not expecting- 3rd pov, very little dialogue. this could have very easily gone wrong and become tedious, but so far it's very engaging with beautiful writing and the few times dialogue is used only makes it all the more powerful

such a distinct writing style that really captures the neuroses of our main pov character, gilda. really interested to see where this one goes

soooo... did i forget i was reading this book because i never marked it on goodreads?? no...

idk at this point i think it's like a 3 or something... the concept is really interesting and complex, but with that i feel like i'm not understanding it all and it's messing with the full impact of the book. if it stays on par it's going to be a three, but hopefully i'll get more invested in the next couple hundred pages with being able to understand all the mythology better

woahhhhhhhhhhhhh this is FANTASTIC. was not expecting murder dude to have this type of personality, but i am here for it. also the mc being so unapologetically herself and killing the man who killed her sister was just YES.

i really was invested in this in the beginning, which was pretty good because i started it on a car trip and usually i'm pretty restless on those, but somehow it's starting to feel like it's loosing momentum from the initial big event of finding out about the father and meeting everyone. really want this improves but i don't know if i hold out much hope.

ok i do think that the main character shayne was being a little bit overexaggerated about her hatred for dominic, so i was a bit scared for the rest of the book, but this truly has developed into a wonderful enemies to lovers story. ugh so cute!

not going to lie at first i thought this was going to be a little too dark and historical for me... like that is my favorite thing so you might be confused, but it was very heavy in the beginning and i wasn't sure if i was in the reading mood for that.

but thank god i kept reading because it really is developing into being such a complex and wonderful story, and very dark indeed.

this is such an essential book, and it's written so well. it really places you there in the minds of the characters

well, first chapter down... it's not so bad, just really not how i want to spend my summer. oh well i guess i really need to get a move on with this book to finish everything before school starts.

so far this has been a good book. not really sure how random elfriede in switzerland fits into everything, but i'm not mad about it. perhaps they're parents to someone in lulu's timeline? lulu herself?

im literally reading four books at once right now i kind of feel bad for starting this lol.

but all of them are high stakes high fantasy! so far, even though this hasn't been the best romance in the world, it's certainly a refreshing, much needed change of pace.
