I'll read a different ediiton. Stephen Mitchell reassembled and edited translated texts from other scholars, omitted peculiarities of Sumerians texts, and he did no translation work of his own, not knowing the language.

From the introduction:
"There is no consolation in platitudes, and for Utnapishtim to tell him that he is going to die seems as tactless as it was for St. Paul to tell the Thessalonians that they were not going to die."
Why was it tactless?

The poem sounds very interesting, but the summary and analysis is hit-or-miss. The moral relativism in particular is grating, and Mitchell could've been a little less horny, although I acknowledge the Sumerians were quite horny themselves.

Paul is starting to sound increasingly unhinged. That's an interesting development.
