I'm only three chapters in, and King is already making me squirm. This book is genius. :)

It took me a couple of chapters to get a handle on this story and the characters that populate it; now that I've got my bearings I am enjoying the hell out of this. :)

"Golem, Elijah" is my favorite story so far. It is enticingly fantastical; not to mention brooding and gory and horrific. Just lovely. :)

"We will dress you in a costume befitting a shaman, and you will go out into the world to lead an Infernal Parade. The world has grown complacent, Tom; and fat with its own certainties. It's time to send some fears into the hearts of men."

"Green Red Orange" is now my favorite in this collection, simply for how deeply I relate to it. Internet friendships, man. They can be the best thing, or they can totally fuck you up. Sometimes both.

"Under the Black Water" is one of the most horrifying stories I've ever had the pleasure of reading.

As a cat lover, "The Neighbor's Courtyard" was almost too much for me. Damn, what a sick story. I am taking a break from reading this collection but will probably finish tonight.

"No Flesh Over Our Bones" felt Clive Barker-esque, minus all the gore and sex. I liked it.

"End of Term" almost made my heart stop with terror. Talk about fiction that gets under the skin. THIS is why I love to read short stories.

"Spiderweb" is probably my least favorite story so far. I liked it, but I certainly wasn't enamored with it.

Why are the books I'm completing not showing up under my reading challenge? The start and finish dates are set properly. I don't understand what's going on. :(

Must.... stop... reading. Must get sleep.

I am loving this novel.

This is the good stuff. I've already laughed and cried.

Okay, never mind, "An Invocation of the Big-Eared Runt" is my favorite story so far. It creeped the hell outta me.

I think "Adela's House" is my favorite story in this collection thus far. Enriquez wonderfully captures how it feels to be a kid and scared/intrigued of a house that just . . . seems bad. I had one of those when I was younger; everyone did, I guess.

I also enjoyed "The Intoxicated Years" — very poetic and bittersweet. A well written tale.

I enjoyed "The Inn" almost as the story that precedes it. So far, this collection is two for two.

If "The Dirty Kid" is any indication, I am going to enjoy this collection. :)

What happens to Brian Rusk is one of the few things that makes me furious with King. Happens every time I read this novel. I get why what happens is necessary, but still. Not happy. *angry face*

I suspect I would be enjoying myself more if I'd read the Christopher Snow novels before reading this; regardless, I am digging this one. :)
