Reading this in light of Anne's recent "bad review bullying" scandal is interesting. I'm reading it because I have immense respect for her early work, but at times I'm not sure whether to laugh, cry, or just reserve judgement til the end. A werewolf driving a car and some random woman willingly having sex with him/it. Really. Reuben is no Lestat. He's not even a Louis.

So transforming into a werewolf is not unlike becoming a giant, walking boner. And werewolf selfies? I'm enjoying the book but thia definitely doesn't possess the same eloquence that the Vampire Chronicles did.

The more I read Rice's stuff, the more I feel like she might have peaked (and peaked early) with her Vampire Chronicles. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that real people just don't speak as floridly as her characters do. It's easy to imagine a 100 year old vampire speaking this way, but a 23 year old kid in 2013? No way.

It's been so long since I've read a Rice novel. Her powers of description have not diminished one bit.

Like clockwork, these books start out boring as fuck and then immediately become ridiculously exciting, almost always around the 150-page mark. Talk about slow to warm up.

I wonder if the pages-long discourse on Swedish goverment intelligence was really necessary.
