Chairs' spread legs, how air feels on skin, how she smells of herself instead of belongings, coming home to the country despite never living there, feeling freed, feeling liminal. A lot of little literary notes setting up the story; literary being the unusul thing for erotica. Interesting.

The emotional development and portrayal of the characters is really marvelous. And I appreciate the vocabulary of the writing.

Read this far and stalled. Goong to have a go at finishing it. I like the characters and the way they're developed, the politics, and the premise, but the book drags. It doesn't help that the particular kink is way off target for this reader.

So many threads. They're starting to come together and there's an admirable complexity from so many woven together, but still hard to figure out what the core plot is.

Still a pretty grim world, but the narrative is getting glimmers of something brighter—we're getting the chance to invest in characters now and who is a protagonist is getting more visible.
